My dad Al Bergeron gave over 50 years of his life to Gulf/Chevron as a field gauger in Grand Bay, near Buras/Venice, LA. We lived in track housing made of asbestos siding (back in the fifites, we thought it was neat) The three streets were called the Gulf Camps of Thriumph, LA. We lived on Pipeline Dr, sixty miles south of New Orleans, until Hurricaine Camille wiped the entire area off of the map. (Yes, contrairy to popular belief, Camille devistated the lower Plaquemines Parish area before it reached the now Casino ridden Gulf Coast. Gulf hired me to work at Ostrica Oil Terminal ( 1966-1969, it was the largest inland oil terminal in the world) I came close to losing my life there three times. The last near death experience was on the Destsco barge with four other college mates who were working the graveyard shift during summer break from college. Thanks to Gulf oil's policy of hiring employees sons to work during their college summers, I made good money and continued my education. I am currently writing a novel and one of my early memories of the "Gulf King", on which I once got to eat lunch with the Captain and my Dad is in the first chapter. Does anyone have a picture of the King during the early 1940's?

During August 1960 I worked on the launch crew of the Tanker "Gulf Oil". I was stationed on the fire watch launch crew as she went down the ways at Bethlehem Steels Sparrows Point Yard. I'm trying to locate a copy of the Gulf Oil TV commercial that aired on NBC during the Apollo space program coverage, and featured the tankers that brought oil into Bantry Bay (Universe Ireland, etc.). I have most of the words to the song in that commercial, but are missing a few, and would love to see the video of the tankers again!

I am trying to find anyone who was on the Gulf King. My husband's uncle was on board in May of 1942. We would like find a photo or anything we can about the ship in its days in the gulf. He was a oiler on the ship. Please send me an email if you have photos or any information.

I currently own a truck that was allegedly a Gulf Oil fuel tanker at an airport in the southeastern United States. It is a 1947 Chevrolet 1 ton panel that was converted by Chevrolet to a dually. The tank was inside, with a PTO cable running through the wooden floor from the transmission to the pump. To ventilate fumes the rear door glass was replaced by louvered sheet metal and there are two vents added in the roof. There is also a large patch in the roof near the rear doors that I believe was the filler for the tank.

My truck is still orange (repainted, I'm certain), but someone has painted murals on the side, covering any Gulf logos. (alas!)

As you can imagine, I am seeking history on it, and considering how it will be done, (restored, modernized, etc.)

Is there a book that I should get concerning Gulf collectibles?

Am curious as to what the octane rating was for Gulf gas back in the 50s-70s..

Gulftane was the low end gas? Then Good Gulf? Then No-Nox, then Gulf Crest?

I am in my 30s and remember some of the old Gulf pumps from stations in New England, way back in the 70s...but I don't know what the octane ratings were.

I am Tara Doucet and I just wanted to let you know that I think that what you all are doing is wonderful; although, you could say that I am a little bit biased because my father was so supportive of it. I had a great respect for the Gulf company and what it stood for, even as a child I remember my father teaching me about the importance of a good day's work and honesty; consequently, these were two things he associated with his childhood and with the Gulf Oil Company. Hi, My grandfather started working for Gulf Oil Co. right out of business college - probably in about 1930. I have a pic of him sitting behind the desk at the Gulf Oil office in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1935. Later, the family moved to the Canton/Akron area in Ohio and when my mom married in 1956 he had purchased a Gulf Oil distributorship in Lansing, Ohio. I visited Vengref PLC in 1968 for a two-month vacation relief. Single and 29, the wives ''fixed'' me up with a Vengref school teacher from Pennsylvania. We got married the next year. Gulf Oil Corp. published a company magazine ''Orange Disc''. The Jan./Feb. 1945 issue featured a story about the Gloucester fishing fleet and its wartime consumption of Gulf Oil products. Appearing on the cover of that Disc issue, is a 12-year old boy shown looking over the local fishing fleet. I am that boy and I would like to obtain a copy of that particular publication. Now 71 years old, I am writing my memoirs and would very much like to use the Disc cover as an illustration. Is there another website that I should use to obtain a copy? He mostly worked in the Gulf Building in Pittsburgh, but traveled quite a bit to Texas, Costa Rica, and numerous other places. He worked with Dick Miller and Adam Young. Sunk T2 Tanker No. 10 Gulfland. This tanker's Bow is resting in 40 ft. of water just north of Jupiter Florida. I have dived many times on it. Always a lot of barracuda and sharks present. It had a large Jew fish in a bow hole that was estimated at 1,000#. It blew me backward when I got too close. I heard that he was later killed with a bang stick. What a pity. His name was Big Joe. My father, Carroll H. Kehne, also operated a Gulf Station in Frederick Md for over forty years. I most recently completed a signed limited edition print of the 1950s view. It was a landmark icon, however, was torn down in the 80s. Harry Truman once stopped in 1953. I have pics and the original Coke bottle from which he drank his coke. Great memories.

I was looking at the stations on your site and found a picture of my Grandfather's and later my Father's Gulf Station in Ann Arbor Michigan in 1951. It was called Tom Schuon's Gulf Service and was in the family from the 30's until the oil embargoes of the 70's. Great site.

I saw your tent @ the 100th anniversary of Spindletop and glad to see you all. My grandfather started working for Gulf Oil in 1909 in Beaumont when he was hired by Mr. McGruff(?) who's wife worked for my great-grandfathers (JF Lanier) in his law office. My granfather(Douglas Lanier) started the Land Leasing dept and was the ONLY Land Leaseing mgr. They closed that office when he retired after 45 yrs. Gulf Oil allowed him to keep his office in the Gulf building in Houston after he retired and all the furnishings. He kept his office until the early 1970's. I still have some of the office furniture w/ the Gulf metal tags on them, along w/ all of my granfathers Gulf Oil service pins. I also have some old land plats that my grandfather used.

My father Captain Arthur Lang was an employee of MGO and captained several of the small tankers moving oil in lake Maracaibo. I was born at Maracaibo General Hospital in 1941. We lived for a time at Maracibo my friends at this camp were Steve Polinski, Steve Kerr and john Poutis. I remember the Steve Polinski's mother made candy and his father had a lionel train set. My brother Gordon has already made an entry on this board. It would be interesting to know what happened to the Tankers where they were made and some details of the crews. I remember that the 1st officer on my dad ship was Rolf Williamson. He attempted to teach me how to fish. There was also Dr. Aserhill, and Dr Rinoso who my parents knew but not certain which camp they were attached to.

Im bilding a old Gulf station in Sweden.

I am gathering information to restore a 1930 Gulf tank car at the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville, Indiana. The car was painted in the late 60's with GULF spelled out in large letters. We would like to refinish it in an earlier paint scheme, using the circle logo on one end like the Lionel cars. The current car number is WRNX 14141, but when the sun is just right, we think we can barely see GRCX and bits of a different number under the current paint. I hope that someone might know where to find the history for this series of cars. This is one of eleven antique freight cars donated to ITM by Alcoa Aluminum in Lafayette, In. several years ago. When I called Gulf headquarters when the car arrived, I was told it was the only one of its class remaining, which was the largest fleet of identical tank cars ever made. I haven't confirmed that, but it sounds good. Alcoa bought several tank cars to cut down and convert into flat cars, but fortunately they missed this one. Any information will be most appreciated. My grandfather ran a Gulf Station when it was new in 1967.He stayed when Gulf pulled out of Central Indiana around 1973 or 1974,then it changed to PRO (Petroleum Retailers Organization).It was formed by Old Gulf Oil dealers in Minnesota.I don't think it last very long.My grandfather left in 1976.The station had 2 bays that was on either end. He came back in 1988 to run the station & it's a Phillips 66 Station now.He retired in 2000 & passed away in 2001.I've been collcting oil tanker trucks.I acquired a 1950's Gulf Station that has a clock & lights up.

I have been reading comments in the guestbook and it really touched my heart to see that employees of Gulf and their children and grandchildren remember Gulf fondly and feel such a strong bond with this brand even after so many years. I am working with Gulf Oil Intl. as a Brand Manager for last 2 years and it is impossible not to be captivated by the passion this brand evokes.What is moving is that inspite of being one of the largest and most profitable corporations in the oil history, Gulf achieved its business objectives while retaining human values and ethics. Although Gulf today has changed dramatically in its business structure but I hope that the human bond with this magical brand will continue. Hi All, My Dad worked for Gulf for 37 years. He started at GR&DC in Harmarville while attending U of Pitt and worked cleaning out the grease pits (he always told us and it sounded rough). We moved to Houston in 1971 and grew to love Texas. My family still lives there although I still live here in Pgh, PA. I was inspired to do a search of GULF when I saw the logo on tonights Pirate game and I just could not believe that they still use the Orange Disc. My Dad retired as Manager of Petroleum Products from GR&DC in the mid 80's and passed away in 1992. He had a few good years to enjoy himself. Gulf was so much a part of my life growing up. I have fond memories of the connection between Gulf and Holiday Inn when we would go on vacation. God Bless the Gulf Employees that made one of the greatest companies in the world. DFK

Can anyone tell me what the "Gulf Capsule of History" is? This document (assuming it was a document) was mentioned as the source for some information regarding theories develped by a Gulf employee, William Henry Bowers, on the solubility of gases.

I currently work at The Gulf Building in Pittsburgh as a Project Manager. It's now officially called the Gulf Tower. There are a lot of things still here that force you to remember that the Gulf organization used to run the show here. There are still a few people here that worked here when it was the Gulf office building. I'm pretty sure Gulf sold it in early 1986. Drop me a line, maybe I'll show ya around.

Worked for Gulf (Los Angeles and Houston) from 1965 to 1985 at which time transferred to San Ramon, CA with Chevron. Retired from Chevron in 1998.

My father, A.J. Nabers, worked at the Gulf pumping station in Valmeyer, Illinois (1942-1970's). I would be interested hearing from any families that worked at the Valmeyer, IL or Dublin, Indiana stations.

My grandfather, whom I am named after, worked for Gulf Oil for over 42 years (from abt. 1916 to 1958). I am not sure of his exact title but know he was in management. He mainly lived in Oklahoma (such as Avant, Boston Lease in Cleveland County, etc.)but also lived in Valmeyer, ILL in early 1940's. Would love to talk with anyone about the history of Gulf Oil, especially regarding it's place here in NE Oklahoma. Both of my grandfather's worked/retired from the "Guffy" Port Arthur refinery, my father, uncle and father in law all worked/retired from the Port Arthur facility while it was still "The Gulf". As a kid growing up in Port Arthur there were two major employers, Gulf and Texaco, there was always some level of competition between the "Gulf kids' and the "Texaco kids". I am a collector of Gulf items and after the change to Chevron (and all of the Gulf stations in Port Arthur went away) I was visiting Danbury, Conneticut and there was a Gulf station around the corner from my hotel. I purchased quarts of oil, lighter fluid, etc. and the owner gave me an old banner (thought I was going to have to throw away clothes to get it all in my suitcase). I was thrilled to find your wedsite, thanks for keeping the orange disk alive.

I am interested in finding a commercial for Gulf Oil Company that a friend mine made about 50 years ago in Bat Cave, NC She wa young, tanned and stunning but very shy and was forced to attend an "audition" at a local church. She was picked immediately "by men from New York" and other local people were chasen to be her family. The commercial called for them to be riding in a convertible pulling a boat and was made on state road 9. She remembers it took 14 takes. Her name is Rosemary Freeman (Mrs. Harvey Freeman( from Bat Cave NC. She said her aunt in Cincinati saw the ad on TV. It would thrill my friend to death if I could get a copy of this ad. Has anyone seen it or can you help me? thank!!

Hi: I visited your site as I was searching for some historical information. Has anyone ever heard of "Blindman Valley Oil Co., Limited" or "The Wetaskiwin-Alberta Oils, Limited". In going through some old documents I came upon some old share certificates of these two companies. Both share certificates were dated 1914. Began as Service Station Attendant on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Oct '57, and retired from Chevron as Communicaations Analyst in Houston in Oct '92. Gulf assited me in receiving my Associate Degree in accounting, and Bachelors in Management and Accounting from the Univ. of Penna Wharton School; I have always been very grateful for that!!! My 88 year old dad wanted to know "whatever happened to Gluf Oil" so I got on the 'grey box' for him He is Les Roberts andhad a FBO in Lakeland, FL for almost 50 years. Bought and a LOT of Gulf Oil products - mostly avaiation fuel! GULF sponsored the ALL AMERICAN AIR MANUEVERS in Miami, FL for years! GULF gave the fuel FREE to any pilot attending the event! Lots of good old stories about that event.And of course, I learned to read by seeing the signs! Great site! Dad sold Texaco aviation fuel but fondly remembers GULF. Thanks for this opportuntiy.

Just found this site! My uncle Jack Ebert started working for Gulf in the 20's and got my father Ralph Ebert a job in the early 30's. He worked for them for 37& 1/2 yr4s. Mostly in Research & Development. When closed down that Dept. He switched to Production until his retirement. I have wonderful memories of being a Gulf Kid! I never worked for Gulf. I am formerly of Pittsburgh PA. Bostons neon Citgo sign has received a lot of recognition. In Pittsburgh, we had neon Gulf signs of that nature. Boy were they huge! This is a very interesting website. I found this site because I was looking for info on some of the Gulf Oil ships that I sailed on. The search engine picked a reference to the Gulf Seal out of this guestbook. I was third assistant, second and first assistant engineer on a number of Gulf ships from 1970 to 1975. These were some of the best and most interesting years of my life. Hard to believe, but I'd like to see Port Arthur again. After spending months running from Ostrica, LA to the Hog Island terminal in Philadelphia (but out in the middle of nowhere) Port Arthur was the big city. My grandfather R.L. Nelson was employed by Gulf Oil Co. I believe. Maybe from the early 1900's to 193?. I always heard he had an office in Tulsa, he died in 1939 and is buried at Broken Arrow. If there is any way I can find out anything else about him being employed there I would appreciate it. He was also acquainted with the Phillips Brothers. I have heard a lot of oil business stories taken place in the 1910's, 20's and 30's from my dad.

Started at the old Baltimore District on Macon Street as a Retail Clerk, then became Human Resources Supervisor, then Operations Analyst and finaly Maintenance Disptacher when Chevron took over. John Poling was our District Manager way back then. What a gentleman. Then came Frank Odom, Gaylon Simmons, Bob Bradley and Larry Walker. All great Managers. What a fantastic group of people we had. I see that some of my old compadres have written in....what a wonderful way to keep in touch. Keep up the good work! I still have an old Gulf Oil gas pump telephone (still works) that I am holding onto.

My father accepted employment with Gulf Oil Co. in 1937. In 1938 the rest of the family sailed south on the SS Gulfhawk to Maracaibo, and assignment to quarters in the old Mene Grande Camp, on the shores of the Lake. I attended Bella Vista School in 38-39-40. We returned to the US in 1940 aboard the same ship the SS Gulfhawk, Capt. Percy Thomas,commanding. I have many old photo's of life in the camps at that time, even a shot of the old Pan Am clipper, that used to fly in everySaturday from Brownsville, Texas. Hired by Gulf Oil Corporation 1 August 1963. Retired from ChevronTexaco Corporation 29 June 2002. Worked for Gulf and Chevron in Houston, Nigeria, Gabon, Angola, Australia and Papua New Guinea and worked for American Overseas Petroleum Limited (Amoseas), a Caltex Group Company, in Houston.

I am just starting as a collector of Gulf oil artifacts. My dad, grandad, and Uncles were all employed by Gulf. My Grandfather started at the Port Arthur Refinery around 1925. My Uncle was a Captain on several Gulf Tankers and My Dad and Uncle were employed at the Port Arthur Refinery their entire life. I visted the refinery from the tie I was a small boy.

Even though we, in a sense, compete, I'm glad that groups like yourselves are preserving signage and providing information for those also interested in the history. Keep up the good work.

I worked as a Chemical Engineer at Gulf's Milford Haven refinery for nearly 20 years until it closed in 1977. Some of my best and most interesting years. I've read that the Gulf brand is being resurrected in the north-east US, and there is at least one Gulf-branded station in the UK, near Spalding, Lincs. Let's hope this is the start of a trend.

I'm a Ham Radio operator who operates a "Bookworm Net" or radio network discussing various books. We have been going through Daniel Yergin's book, "The Prize". This is a wonderful book, and started my research on Gulf Oil. I would really like to chat with others who are intrigued by this sort of effort and enterprize. The oil business seems to be something I should have taken better note of when I was a kid. I grew up only a few miles away from "Richfield", and I have since then done some instrumentation electronics work for various petrochemical companies.

My first day at Gulf Oil was Aug. 4, 1969 at 712 Main St., Houston, Texas, as a teletype operator in the Communications Department. I worked for Gulf in 2 Houston Center, Westbelt Center and the Wilcrest Center in Houstonm too. I retired from Chevron in Aug. 1996 in Midland, Texas.

My Grandfather ( Charles A. Torbett) started a Gulf Oil Distributorship in New Tazewell Tenn in the 1920s. The company is still there(although it is BP) and is ran by my uncle C.A. (Bud) Torbett to this day.

Just found this great site. It was fun looking at all the messages and recognizing a lot of names. I started at Gulf Research in 1964 and worked in Technical Services until 1976 when I became the aviation quality control engineer in the southeastern US. My dad began a Gulf service station here in October, 1961. At first it was only a small store converted from a one-car garage in our basement and a small separate garage with one grease pit. It remained under the Gulf flag until 1973, when Gulf sold their Finnish operations to two Finnish oil companies. I am still running this 40-year old station, now under a different brand, but with a strong awareness of the Gulf tradition. Our cafe still carries the Gulf name. We have had visitors from all over the country coming to see the only remaining Gulf station cafe in Finland. Once Gulf was the third largest oil company in our country, with about 200 gas stations. I have been running this station from 1983, but have practically grown up at the station.

My brother and I just moved back to Odessa and are helping to restore the old Gulf Building on Second Street here in Odessa. It opened 10/30/36. It is in bad repair now but will be a beauty when finished. Our father J. W. Stephenson, worked for Gulf Oil in Wickett, Texas for over thirty years.

Gulf Oil has a lovely history in the Caddo-Pine Island Field, LA. Here they developed the underwater oil resouces of the field below Caddo Lake beginning in 1910. The development was the first isolated overwater drilling in the U.S. There is an oil museum in Oil City, LA, if anyone ever visits the northwest LA region north of Shreveport.

This is a great site. It's also nice to see that Chevron has reintroduced the Gulf name through a line of oils and lubricants in seven Southern states. With Gulf service stations already on the East Coast, maybe the Gulf name will come back nationally.

Hello! While I'm no oil company employee or Gulf retiree, I still owe my childhood doodles--& my later career in "fine" art, commercial graphics, & cartooning--to the Orange Disc, as much as to God Himself. In 1964, before my first birthday, Gulf discs were replaced throughout the USA, let alone N.W. Alabama. I must have wanted one badly...because I both doodled gas stations & country stores, AND cut trademarks out of road maps & ads from magazines, by two years of age (1965-'66). One Disc that I especially wanted was on the way from rural Fayette County to Tuscaloosa (where my grandparents lived), to the side of Smalley's Store on US Hwy. 43. It was dwarfed by the current Disc...it was on a "lollipop" with wrought-iron curlicues...and it was under a shady oak on the Smalley family's front lawn. What could look more elegant to a 1 1/2-year-old? THAT set me to doodling Gulf (& Pure Oil) stations above all other brands! I became interested in trademark design & graphics by age eight (1972), and collected road maps, cloth badges, and pump signs seriously by age twelve (1976)--all just before my entry into Ala. School of Fine Arts--because of that 42- inch disc from 1925-1935. And now...we finally have one! It's my hope that we can do more than just "git t'gether an' reminisce 'bout ol' memories." Perhaps...we can persuade Cumberland Farms to merge with other C-store chains...maybe even with a crude oil/gas producer...and thereby return the Orange Disc to other parts of the USA! Why can't we? Thanks for letting me chime in...!

I have found the Gulf Oil site quite interesting and helpful. I have recently restored and old Gulf Oil oil can display rack. These normally sat in front of the station or in the island for displaying the Gulfpride Oil products for sale. I have also restored a old refuse can with the spring loaded top for placing trash, etc. Now in the process of restoring a '60 model Gulfcrest gasoline pump and also and earlier 50's version, using a Gilbarco pump. Not sure if Gulf ever used Gilbarco or not, but it should make a nice display.

I started to work for Gulf Oil in 1970,just out of the Air Force.I worked as a warehouseman in Jackson Ms.unloading many rail cars of oil and bug sprays and charcoal lighter.In 1974 I took a job as a Gulf transport driver.The fleet Rep.came and rode with me on one of my first deliveries,when we returned to the terminal he was overheard to say,"James will be a good driver if the transmission holds up".It did and I lasted through the merger and drove for B P until I retired in 1995.This is a great site,it feels like visiting with family.

My father owned a Gulf gas station in Toledo,OH It was call Old Orchard Gulf, it was on Central Ave. right next door to Churchill's Supermarket in the Old Orchard area. I started working there helping my dad when I was probably in the fifth grade. Not sure when he opened the station but recently, I saw some family pictures where my three sisters and my mom were handing out things for the Grand Opening. Those sure were the "Good Ol' Days. I have some of my dad's Gulf items and have been to some flee markets and other places to collect more Gulf Stuff. I am not a collector, I just enjoy having these Gulf things because they bring back good memories. Once in awhile you can still find a Gulf Station in Kentuckey,W.Virginia and Virginia One thing I would really like to get is, a "pop gun" it was made out of paper and cardboard. I got my first station in 1959 and left Gulf when they pulled out of the state. Sold well over 250,000 to 300,000 gallons of gas per month. The last four or five years we concentrated on servicing boats. Made many, many, friends and still keep in touch with some of the kids that worked for me. Ran a drag car with Gulf all over it. Won a lot. Lost a lot, too. Still have some pictures of the station and some of the road projects we were involved with through the city and Gulf Oil. They had the finest products at that time and nothing could beat them. Would be glad to correspond with any one. My father, Vergil Foster worked for Gulf Oil on the tug Gulf Sprite and he wa stationed at the dock in Philadelphia. My uncle, Thomas Wilson Hutchinson, was a captain for Gulf Oil and my uncle Eugene Ripley, also was a captian for Gulf Oil. They all worked the tugs in Philadelphia. Born in Pittsburgh in 1963, and remember seeing the big GULF signs all over the city, and the research center. Moved to NY in 1970, and had a chance to see some race cars sponsored by GULF at Watkins Glen as a kid. Interested in anyting to do with Pittsburgh History or Gulf Racing!

"Hired on" with "The Gulf" at Port Arthur in 1979. The company was always refered to as "The Gulf." Marine Department, under Capt J.C. Davis and Paul Cleary. Super fine people in a great company. And what a fleet we had. The "animal" class T-2's GULFDEER, GULFLION, GULFSEAL and GULFTIGER, the GULFCREST, GULFOIL (she got more stray mail intended for Pittsburgh, Houston, etc), GULFPRIDE, GULFSOLAR, GULFSPARY, GULFSUPREME, and the royalty class GULFKING, GULFKNIGHT, GULFPRINCE and GULFQUEEN, and the small but mighty tug DELANCO (at the refinery from 1919 until 1983, that's service). With the retirement of the old T-2's and fleet downsizing, I was offered an opportunity to transfer to the lubricants export desk in Houston. The VP or Marine called around and found a slot that I could move into (I believe lubricants said OK about midnight of the deadline of the first downsizing ever in '81 (as I recall!). My dad owned a gulf station in memphis from 1957 till his death in 98. i grew up in the bussiness and still have it in operation, {garage only}

My father started out working for Mr. Dickey, a Gulf distributor in Cleburne, Tx, after WWII. He worked for several years driving a truck, then went on to open a pump repair shop. In 1951, he went to work for Gulf Oil as a pump mechanic. He retired from Gulf as terminal supervisor in 1971 from the Ft. Worth terminal. He bought out the Gulf distributor in Cleburne, Tx in 1971, the same business he worked for after the war. He and my mother have been running the business ever since. I have been working with them for about 15 years, and now my grown son and daughter are working with us. My youngest daughter, who is in kindergarten, also comes to "work" after school. Anyone who may remeber my Dad or Mom please e-mail us about the good old days at Gulf. I have heard so many stories and remember many myself. There is a loyalty we all have for Gulf that is hard to explain. It was, and still is, a great way of life.

I see many former Gulf employees checking out this website. I know many of you and would like to encourage you to join the GOHS. It`s a great way to keep in touch with friends and former employees from the "good old days" and find out about the history of the "old" Gulf. Although I am still employed by Gulf Oil Limited Partners, here in the Northeast, there is no connection between Gulf Oil LP and the Gulfoil Historical society. This site and the club itself is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Gulf. I am a Charter member of GOHS and highly recommend that each and every one of you join. I joined because I am a collector of Gulf memorabilia but you don`t have to be a collector to join, just someone who has a love for Gulf and it`s history. I work for gulf transportation in san fransisco. We are gas carriers, our main company is olimpyan oil, a minny major on the west coast. The owner liked the name of the old gulf stations and called our transportation division gulf, so when i deliver to station's i'm asked all the time if we are of the old gulf stations..i say with regret no. I would have been proud to have deliverd for the company and i am very fasinated when i go by old unused stations that bear a rezembalance to stations of the past..it makes me feel like i wish i could step back in time!

My Dad, Raymond Estep, and his brother Harold owned/operated staion for 50 yrs. (1936 -1986) at the intersection of U.S. Highway 11-211 in New Market, VA. My Uncle Harold owned the station several yrs before dad came to work with him after his term in the military. If anyone remembers this station, would love to hear from you.

Just found out about this group and website recently at the Spindletop "Centennial" celebration in Beaumont Texas. I began work in 1977 at the Port Arthur Refinery, I am still at Port Arthur working at what was know as Package and Grease, now called Chevron Lubricants & Specialty Products (PADC)-Chevrons largest operation of this type. I am a collector, looking forward to joining up. Very interested in Gulf history and memorabilia. My dad also worked for Gulf at the Port Arthur Refinery...the old main office still stands !

I am looking for information about my grandfather, Marcus (Mark) Hanna. He was a paleontologist with Gulf from about 1921 to 1960. He and my grandmother, Myrl, had a hobby which was the subject of a Gulf company magazine article. They made butterflies out of rock sections, mounting them on plaques and stands or making them into jewelry, such as pins and bolo ties. The magazine article was most likely in the late 50's early 60's. If you have information about my grandfather, I'd love to hear from you.

I joined Gulf at Milford Haven in 1977. It always had the reputation of being the best refinery on Milford Haven. When we were hijacked by Chevron no one ever said they worked for Chevron always Gulf!

My grandfather, father and uncle retired from Gulf. My dad retired at the time Chevron bought Gulf, he was employed for 30+ years. He has pictures of rigs he worked on throughout LA and TX. This is sort of a sentimental site! My grandfather owned a Gulf Station in Birmingham, AL. At the time of his death in December of 1971, he owned one of the oldest dealerships in the southeast.

i am fixing up the front of my garage with a gulf motif. i have a gulf dealer sign i am touching up. the ppg code numbers i have do not compute with the local auto paint stores. all they have are fleet colors for gm and ford. i guess they used these to paint gulf vehicles. i need the gulf orange and blue paint code using ppg or whatever. thanks for the help in advance.

This is a great site. I am going to join real soon. I am a long time Gulf customer and collector. I was never an employee, but Gulf has a special feeling in heart. My Dad and I done alot of engine work in the early days in addition to our other full time jobs, and we rented a couple bays in an old Gulf station near our home and had a lot of fun. When I came back from the service in 1967, Gulf was my very first credit card that I had ever had. It continued until the merger of Chevron, which I still have and am a Time Honored Member as my years with Gulf continued. I use it every time we travel south which is two or three times a year. I collect everything that is gulf and still want more. Hope to hear from of you. Keep up the good work on the work you do on the society.

Looking for as many pictures of gasoline pumps as I can find, with all four views of the pump. Front, rear, rightand left. This will greatly help me with the project that I'm working on. The original size of the pump will be necessary also.

Nice to see the site, even if I don't know any of the names yet. My father began working for Gulf Refining in New Orleans in 1950 and had progressive assignments in the credit department in Jacksonville, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Houston. I began my career with Gulf Exploration and Production in New Orleans in Financial Accounting and moved through various assignments until the merger with Chevron. I'm still with Chevron, having worked in Land, Gas Control, Training Coordination, and Aircraft Operations. I'd be happy to correspond with any of you who knew my father or me over the years.

Started to work for Gulf Oil in 1975 at the Port Arthur Refinery, stayed through the "merger" with Chevron and the subsequent sale of the refinery to Clark Oil. I hired on with the old Gulf in Feb. of 1974 in the testing Lab in P.A. Texas. Worked there for 7 years and then bid into the Instrument Dept. Moved to Orange in 1992 and retired from Chevron August of 1999. Gulf was the best to work for without a shadow of a doubt. Most of the guys knew me as GUNRUNNER at P.A. Miss those guys. Mt father started with Gulf pumping gas in Dallas TX int the late 30's and worked his way through the company in TX and in 1954 he took over the distributor ship in Grayson co. TX would love to here form some of the others from this ere in TX. He was with Gulf until his death in 1879 and then my brother took over and saw the turn to Chevron

My father worked for Gulf in the Texas Panhandle oil field from 1926 till 1959 when he retired. I also had two uncles who spent their working years with Gulf. When I was in college, the Gulf was kind enough to give summer jobs to sons of Gulf employees. Most of my boyhood days, we lived in Gulf company camps in the Panhandle. I will always have a warm stop in my heart for Gulf. I am in the processing of developing a web site devoted to live in oil company "camps" in generaland with our Gulf camp in Hutchinson county Texas in particular.

I am a 4th generation Gulf Oil Distributor still working out of my original bulk plant built in 1925. I have a nice collection of pre-1964 Gulf items and enjoy furthering the interest of "The Orange Disc". I congratulate all of those working for the GOHS and I appreciate your efforts. My father, Harry J. Huffman was an employee of Gulf Oil for over 30 years. Retired in 1960 at Waynesboro, MS. I saw an article in the paper about your placing the historical marker and was interested to learn more about your organization.

Employee 1964 - 1999, GR&DC 64-78, Gulf Chemicals, Baytown,TX 78-94 (Chevron), Chevron Refining, Pascagoula,MS 94-99.

I have a picture of my grandfather standing in front of the Gulf Oil service station he operated. Picture taken in about 1920. That station was put on logs and pulled with horses several hundred feet and then was used as my grandparents home. The round orange sign was visible thru many coats of paint through the years and the house still stands. When that station was moved a brick one replaced it which was very much like the old wooden one. The brick one was just torn down a year or so ago. I will share photos with a few people, only charge printing and postage.

My father was a Gulf dealer for at least 50 years. I dont have a lot of memrabelia but i do have a lot of memories.this site brings back a lot of those fond memories thank you very much.

I worked for GOE&P International from 1976 to 1981 in the Houston headquarters at 712 Main Street. Great memories. I turned in my Gulf stock certificates on Wall Street on the last day for redemption -at the time of the Chevron takeover. I was sent to a room (I believe it was at Morgan Trust Co.) and the room was approximately 100' x 100'. Stacked and sorted on many table tops were most of the individual stock certificates that had been tendered by all of the shareholders. There was a mountain of stock certificates (many thousands) piled on the tables, all different vintages, designs and dates....I like to claim that i was one of the last employees to see the old corporation gathered together for the last time !!!

I am looking for any and all examples, photos or stories pertaining to the Wichita Truck. I know that Gulf Oil mostly used White Trucks but I remain hopeful that somebody may have seen something from the Wichita Falls Motor Company. The Wichita trucks are very similar to the White Truck in design and may be hiding in old oil field photos. Any information will be included in the now forming Wichita Truck Museum. The guestbook is a great idea! I am a member of the G.O.H.S. My grandfather,father and I collectively wore the Orange Disc on our shirts for 94 years. I would like to hear from anyone who has photos or other items related to Gulf's truck fleet. I would buy them or pay to have copies made. I am especially interested in Gulf trucks from the '30's,'40's and '50's.

I operate as VP Marketing Gulf Oil International, which owns the Gulf Trademark worldwide outside of the USA. I am currently in the process of producing a 100th year publication to mark this great co's history. I would very much appreciate any input of what should be included particularly great stories and anectdotes. There aren't too many companies out there with the rich tradition and heritage that we possess and as you would appreciate we only get one chance to do this right. I grew up in Boston, Mass. in the 1960's and 1970's when Gulf stations were everywhere. I know Gulf is now a fraction of its original size, but it is still nice to know that the name is still alive along the East Coast. This is a great site.

My Grandfather, Charles Prinz, worked for Stoll Oil Company in Lexington, Kentucky and later for Gulf Oil in Louisville, KY. Unfortunately he died when my mother was only 6 years old. I was hoping to locate images, articles, anything that might mention my Granddad. I continue to surf in hopes of locating information, but no luck so far. I would appreciate any suggestions. I started with Gulf in 1970 at Hooven, Ohio (just 2 letters from Heaven) Terminal. My wife Barbra work at the Cincinnati Refinery located beside next door. The Terminal and the Refinery are long gone. Istill work for Chevron in Louisville, Ky. and Barb is a teacher. Glad to see this site.

I am a model builder. Lately I have taken to modeling old style gas pumps from scratch. They have been fairly generic but I am now trying to get them more technicaly correct. Also I was delighted to find that I was the one thousandth visito to this sight. Do I get some kind of door prize for that? Just kidding! This is a marvelous sight, thanks for making it available.

Could I be the first international employee to sign up! I started at Gulf Oil Co. Eastern Hemisphere in its London office at 2, Portman Street back in 1978 after leaving school. As you can see by my email address I survived the merger and am still with that other oil co. Gulf hold many happy memories for me and for me were the best working years of my life... so far! Like others here I have a small collection of Gulf memoribillia, mostly UK focussed. My working life with Gulf was great fun... something that seems to have left the workplace nowadays! Any other UK Gulfers out there ?

Wish I had found this site sooner - thanks to Art Gray for letting me know about it. I spent 7 very good year at Gitco and GTT from 1978 to 1984. Many of the friendships I made there continue to this day. It was a great place to work!!!

I worked at GRDC from 1957 to the end in Refining services Divison as a pilotplant operator, foreman,and supervisor, I am very Proud of GOHS as R.Beck is my son. Anyone that knows who we are contact us on the net.

Really great to see this site. I started with Gulf in New Jersey in 1977 and still receive a paycheck with the name Gulf on it. It's not the same, but I work for Gulf Oil Limited Partnership out of Chelsea, Ma. Like I said, it might not be the same, but at least the name is carried on. This is a great site and I thank all the wonderful people who put it together. My wife had our first child when I was an employee of Gulf (GORAM Gulf Oil Marketing), we bought our first house and moved to Long Island through Gulf. Sometimes I think my veins are flowing with blue and orange!

What a GREAT idea and will come back to this site. I recently started collecting Gulf items and love it. My Grandfather (Lucius C. Dixon) started with Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, Texas in 1912 and worked there until his death in 1946. My Father (Arthur C. Dixon) worked there for 40 years and retired in 1973. I started in Port Arthur in 1968 and then transfered to the new Allinace Refinery (south of New Orleans) in 1971 for the start-up. I am still at Alliance, but it is currently owned by BP. So, you can see Gulf Oil runs deep in my family and there is no doubt Gulf Oil was the BEST company to ever work for. If anyone knew my Dad or knows me, please get in touch.

Hello, I started in the steno pool in June 1967 - I 1st worked with Betty Lotter in the City Line Office. Then up to Retail Credit with Bob Siewell, George Flick, Harry Giesiecke, Bill Watson, Bob Best, Gerry Spause, George McCall, Bud Avery. I moved on the Data Processing and worked with May Carr. Then moved out to the Bryn Mawr office with Bob Olmstead, Bob Barger, Dave Woods, Ed Lynch, Jack Watt. That office closed and moved down to Baltimore with Gayle Simmons, then Bob Bradley and then Larry Walker. Chevron took us over and closed the Baltimore office and I finally HAD to leave after 25 years. Take care everyone - this is great.
