Hello, my dad drove a transport truck for Gulf Oil in the late 60’s and early 70’s out of West Helena, Arkansas. I have a few pictures of him and the truck he drove and was wondering if you would be interested in them for your website.
Thank you.

I recently found two large prints (11x14) taken at the Gulf Oil Refining Bulk Plant in Indianapolis, Indiana. My father (Frank Wall) worked for Gulf Oil for about 45 years and was one of the last employees in Indianapolis when they left the market. As a kid I spent many hours playing in that warehouse. Both B&W, one print shows the office/warehouse building with cars parked in front and employees standing by their cars (I assume these were the sales reps). Other employees are standing on the loading dock behind them. And there are two tank trucks at left with their drivers. Judging by the cars and trucks I would guess it was taken in the 1930's. The 2nd photo is a closeup of a delivery truck that closely resembles the truck of the 1919 model on your website. The warehouse/office building is in the background as are the large gasoline tanks. Let me know if you are interested. Dennis Wall
Dear Sir/Ma'am,
I have recently obtained some photos of the Gulf Prince Christening in Dec of 1957. The photos were taken on Dec 3 in Baltimore MD. Would you be able to help identify the people in the photos? I have approximately 50 photos.
Thank You,

My grandfather, Toke Kobayashi, owned a Gulf Gas Station in Webster, Texas in the 70’s. He was featured on the cover of a gulf magazine (not sure of the name) as having a customer base that was “out of this world,” because many of his customers were people like Alan Shepard, John Glen, Neil Armstrong and other astronauts. I would do anything to get a copy of the cover and story (original or just a scan). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I believe these are pictures that were used in the magazine.
My email is donalynnrowe@gmail.com. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
My great-great grandfather was George Taber, a refining man for Gulf. He started a family trust with Gulf oil stock and I was wondering if you all had links to historic price charts for the return of Gulf Oil stock.
Thanks,
David Rohrbacher
Hello, I found an old abandoned Good Gulf gas pump on the side of the road. I was wondering if you would be interested in a photo. Also, do you know of anyone who could give me a VERY rough estimate of its value? Thanks so much

Hello. I'm doing some research on the area where I grew up in New York City and trying to locate pictures of neighborhood businesses. There was a Gulf station on Pearl Street near the Brooklyn Bridge in the early 1960s and I was hoping one of your members might have a photo of it. Please advise. Thank you.

Hello.
I am collector of Zippo Lighter and of Gulf lighter fluid containers. I recently bought a lighter with initials M.B.F. for M.B.Fuller. The lighter is from the 1937 era. My question is, Do any of your members have any info on Mr. Fuller from the 30s and if any of them have any old GULF Zippo lighters and or Lighter fluid bottles or tins for sale.

I have a solid wood desk and a swivel typewriter stand that have Gulf Oil assett tags on them. I bought them from an estate sale in Beaumont, Texas ( just up the road from the Gulf Pt. Arthur refinery) several years ago. I have used the desk for several years in my house. Do to a remodel, I no longer have a use for them. I would like to sell them to a Gulf collector that would appreciate their history. If anyone is interested call Brian at (409) 781-9974.
As a Gulf collector, I appreciate your website.
I came across this piece when i was at an estate sale , and was hoping if you had any info about it. It measures roughly 12" x 12" . Sorry if the photo isnt clear enough. Thanks hope to hear from you soon!
I enjoyed going through your web pages a little while ago. I live in Houston, and am definitely old enough to remember Gulf Oil Co.
Back in the Apollo Program space program days, Gulf stations gave spaceship and space module models away to kids at the Houston area stations. I'm writing in hopes of clarifying something. I ran across a picture of an old (but it looks new at the time) station in Houston at a location here in my neighborhood. From the style of the station, and the rear-end of the car in the shot, along with the "Gulf Refining Company," and "That Good Gulf Gasoline" signs, I'm thinking it's from the 20's or early 30's. The station was at the corner of Westheimer Rd. and Yupon Street in Houston. I believe the zip code for that intersection is 77006.
I'm trying to determine what side of the street the station was on, and though I'm 99% sure it was the Northwest corner of that intersection, if I knew the address, or could have access to some kind of database that had old addresses of stations, I could be certain. I'd like to take a picture of the same corner from the same angle and add it to a collection of "then and now" side-by-side photos hanging in my house of different parts of Houston. I was hoping you guys could help, or at least point me in the right direction. Thanks for your time!
Thanks,
Mark Gutierrez
My name is Sam Jones
My grandfather, Charles L. Jones, owner of a farm near Warren, Texas was approached by the Gulf Oil Co in the 19teens requesting a right of way across his farm for a pipeline. Grandpa Charles granted right of way and sought employment for himself and his Sons. He worked on the pipeline with his two eldest sons. My father, thirteen years old, pushed a wheelbarrow with a barrel of water for the workmen.
Charles got permanent employment with Gulf, starting as a “line rider” covering forty miles of pipeline on horseback checking for leaks and retiring fifty years later as a pump station superintendent.
After graduating from Texas A&M in 1932 my father, Carol L Jones, started working for Gulf and also retired after fifty years as did my uncles, Don R Jones and Herbert H Jones. Combined, that’s two hundred years of employment with Gulf for Charles and his sons.
Gulf produced a magazine for employees, The Gulf “Oilmanac”. I was wondering if any copies of the magazine still exist.
Many Thanks,
Sam
While on a field trip this weekend, I found that 5 out of about 25 of us were ex-Gulf hands. I was at Gulf in New Orleans from 1977-81 and have maintained contact with others over the years. Please add me to the guestbook or send info as to how I can fill in the entry.

Hi,
I happened on the GOHS site whilst looking for an old colleague. You may be
interested in what I am doing. We have taken the Process Units from Gulf
Milford Haven Refinery and re-erected them near Karachi in Pakistan.
The refinery was so well designed, run and maintained that when I bring it
back to life next year it will still be a world class facility even though
Chevron closed it at the end of 1997.

Hi,
I am doing an environmental investigation of an old carriage house which is to be
converted into a child care center and came across what may be a foundation for
an old gas pump. I am attaching a picture. Do you know of anyone that might be able
to determine for sure if this is gas pump related?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information regarding Gulf Refining
Attached is a letter to my grandfather (age 11) from his father (R.E. Garrett). The letter was written from Allentown, PA. His stationary says, "Gulf Refining Company." Could you point me in the right direction to find some information on R.E. Garrett? It has been giving me some frustration for years, and I just found your site.

Help! I need some info on a Gulf Sign....
Hi Gulf Gang!
I come from a long line of Gulf "family", my grandfather had over 45 years with the Philadelphia site and my uncle rose through the ranks of Gulf and retired as President of Chevron in San Francisco.
I'm in need of help from the Gulf Family and historians..... I have a 6' metal Gulf sign hanging in my garage. It seems it has caught the eye of a collector and he has asked to buy it. I'm just not sure what it is worth. It is in very good shape, just a few small (size of a penny)rust spots and chips on the side, but otherwise in great shape. Would any of your members/collectors have an idea of what a good price would be to sell this sign to the collector? I can provide photos if they are needed.
Your help would be greatly appreciated and I would welcome any comments!
Cheers!

Hi,
I am trying to find information on an oil tanker fire (don't know which company's ship it was) happened around the mid 1970's, they were off loading in (I believe) New Haven Conn. when the fire occurred.
I am researching my uncle's Merchant Mariner career, he worked on tankers, in the fire I referred to above, my uncle was burned over 90% of his body when he stayed to shut the valve off so the fire wouldn't spread to the shore.
I am finding (unlike regular military) the Merchant Marines don't seem to have a database for finding a Mariners records, etc.
Any input would be appreciated.

I am interested in a specific tanker that my father was stationed on during WW II. He was part of the naval armed guard that was detached to the SS Gulf Point. I am looking for a copy of the merchant crew and the naval armed guard list when my father was stationed on the tanker. My fathers names is: William Henry Hueg.

Dear GOHS,
I have a question, it probably is a longshot as I dont have much details, but I will give it a try.
I am searching for the name of an employee that worked in the Philadelphia Refinery for 25+ years as a "stillman". He would have worked there between I estimate 1950 - 1982. He was born in 1917 in the former Czechoslovakia and eventually came to the US, joined the Navy, then Gulf Oil. He also became a naturalized citizen with three children.
Do you have any former employee lists or records or perhaps know where I could look? Any help would be most appreciated!
Regards,
Geoff Brooks
I noticed Jeff Bendix’s letter on the clock that that the attendant had to beat to the customer; the promotion was for the customer to be greeted in 10 seconds; my dad altered it for a day or two to 5 seconds or we would give the customer a free Pop Kola (really popular in the 50’s and 60’s in South Arkansas). My dad was a dealer in the “S-Curve” (3rd and Shover) in Hope Arkansas from 1965 to 1976, and previously in Bossier City, Louisiana at the West Gate of Barksdale AFB (the old West Gate Gulf) from 1959 to 1962, and I was myself in Conway, Arkansas from 1982 to 1986.

My Great Grandfather Willard F. Jones was (and I quote) "the vice-president and general manager of the Marine department of Gulf Oil Corporation," in the 1940's. My father also told me he served on "the board" whatever that means, and supposedly met the Shah of Iran and many other important world figures of his time. I have numerous newspaper articles that feature him and a book created by Gulf Oil which recounts the christening of the vessel the S.S. San Tome on November 16, 1949. My father also claimed that he was the president of Gulf Oil for a certain amount of time. I was curious if anyone on this website could find anything on him; his story is an important one in my family and I find it odd that I have never found anything about him anywhere on the web that relates him to Gulf Oil. If he was truly such a prominent figure, I wonder why I cannot find out much about him. Any info or support of these claims would be incredibly beneficial. Thanks.

Hello,
I'm looking for photos, drawings, just about anything, of the Gulfsolar, Gulfknight, and Gulfking (2).
My husband is captain of the Gulfsolar, now called The Monseigneur and owned by American Heavylift Shipping Company.
Before the ships were double-hulled, he was chief mate on the SS King (Gulfking), captain on the SS Knight (Gulfknight).
Thank you!

My father opened a Gulf Service Station in 1949 after being discharged from the Army. He operated it until he retired in 1994. I grew up at the station since our house was located about 50 yards away.
I remember a Gulf promotion that had a time clock in the window so customers could tell how fast we got to the cars for service. Can you give me information on the details of this?
Thanks!

Hi,
My Name is Tanya Snow.
My Grandfather, Robert Carpenter, worked for Gulf Oil for many years, over 30 years ago now, in Toronto and Northern Ontario. Included in a box of things he had put aside for me when he passed, was a set of gold Cufflinks with the Gulf emblem in the center. There is also a sliver pen/pencil set with the emblem on the top.
There are a 3 or 4 coin sets from a Gulf promotion. They are coins from different countries, bond in hard board and plastic. I'm almost certain one set is fully complete. The others are missing coins from being moved around over the years. I don't know if there is anyone you can think of that would be interested in any of these items. From looking at the galleries on this website, alot of the collectors are interested in the cans and pumps and patches and such. I didn't see much when it comes to the items I have.
Thank you very much for your time,

I am a retired former Gulf/Chevron employee. In 1978 the Gulf Oilmanac featured an article on the Warren Petroleum new imports facility in Galena Park, Texas. One of my NASA friends has requested a copy of this article for an upcoming “Spinoff” magazine. The article centered on the control of the new turbine driven pumps that off loaded the ships at the rate of 15000 bbls per hour.
Do you have any idea where I could get a copy of the magazine or at least a copy of the article?
I can be reached at 281-389-1973.

Greetings,
am writing a biography of Buckminster Fuller and would like to check the authenticity of Gulf Refining Company's purchase of his Dymaxion Car in 1933 from Fuller's 4D Company. It was used by Captain Alford Williams, Chief of the Aeronautical Sales Division of Gulf Refining for a promotional tour of Gulf Service Stations in the US starting in the New York territory with the main goal being the Chicago World's Fair.
I would also like to know if the person who bought it from Gulf was the Director of the Automotive Division of the Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC and the date of the purchase.
Hope you can help.

I am hoping to utilize the collective resources of your organization to locate a Gulf Oil advertisement that was used as source material for a work of art by Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein in 1962. In our collection, we have a drawing by Lichtenstein called “No-Nox” (image attached). A specific source for the drawing has not been located, although while scouring the internet this morning I found a few examples that seem similar. I can’t imagine anyone more qualified to find the Lichtenstein’s source ad than you. I hope this potential scavenger hunt interests you. I would be delighted to be able to match a real source with our drawing after so many years of mystery.

Hi.
I am writing from England and have two subjects I hope you may be able to help me with.
My brother-in-law, Forrest Spindle is a proud Texan, ex. Gulf employee and Air Force veteran, living in Houston. He is not very well at the moment and I think he would appreciate a message of support from you.
My other query concerns aircraft. In the 1930s, Gulf Oil sponsered an team of aerobatic aircraft. They were biplanes, painted in orange and blue, one of the pilots was a woman and they visited an airshow in England. I remember all this from an article I read in an aviation magazine about 40 years ago. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the type of aircraft used or the name of the woman pilot. Do you have this information or can you direct me to a source? I wish to buy or build a model of the aircraft.
Thanks in anticipation
Ivor Gears
Hello-
I am retired from Gulf Oil, and I have a question. Do you know where or if I can get a model airplane replica of a Gulf Oil airplane of the 1930’s? My brother-in-law in England has not had any success in Europe, and he has asked for my help.
You attention to my request is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Forrest Spindle

My grandfather worked (common worker) for at least 20 years in Venezuela (1930 something to 1950 something) for Gulf, and I had no idea the company had been down gere for so long.
It would be great if you could somehow tell, show... some pictures of whatever GULF had down here, specially in LAGUNILLAS, where he worked and my mom was born.
Again, thanks and congrats.
My Daddy was a Gulf Oil dealer from 1948 to his death on October 31, 1970, during that time he operated 3 different service stations in Person County, NC all were on US Highway 501 North in Timberlake, NC. The first one was approximately 7 miles south of Roxboro, the second one was at the Helena Crossroads, and the third one was near our home approximately 9 miles south of Roxboro, NC. Our store was Blalock Brothers General Merchandise. My father was Maxie Thomas Blalock, Sr and his brother and partner was Berlie Gaddis Blalock, they were both veterans of World War ll, daddy was a radio man on a B24 in the US Army Air Force, and Uncle Berlie was in the US Navy. Daddy bought Uncle Berlie out twice. Our Gulf Oil distributor was Mr. R. A. Whitfield of Roxboro, NC he was in General John "Black Jack" Pershing's Black Cat Division in World War l. Mr. Whitfield's motto was "Go Gulf, we did!
I worked for Gulf Oil in the summer of 1967 at the Gulf Station at the intersection of Spring Street & North Avenue in Atlanta, GA while I was attending the National Railroad Institute. I am a retired transportation officer for Norfolk Southern Railway and my brother Gary Lunsford Blalock is a senior research scientist with Michelin Tire.
I am glad to see that there is a Gulf Oil Historical Society.

I remember hearing about this, but, as he is gone now, I wonder if you know of any way I could find out more about his years with the company? He died in the 1970s and I have recently been very interested in piecing the history of his life together. I believe he was raised just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I realize this is a shot in the dark, but any information you may be able to provide would be appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Julie Kepler
My name is Philip Barbour. I have been trying without much success to gather information on my great-grandfather who as I understand it was the president of Gulf Oil. My father shares his memories of his grandfatherm and there are some pictures but somewhere there has to be biographical information. On the internet, I have found some documents he pened (primarily revolving around the science of oil and molecular structure of refined oil. But nothing biographical. His name was George Taber. Any thoughts...anything you may be able to offer that will assist me will be greatly appreciated.
Be Well,

Dear GOHS,
I am interested in locating the music to an old Gulf Oil commercial called "Bringing Home the Oil". The Music was written and performed by Tommy Makem. From what I can gather, it was aired during any space walks/events in the late 1960's/early 1970's on NBC. I would like to obtain a copy of the audio or both the audio and video. If you could help me or point me in any direction as to where to find this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
My name is Dennis Tice. I'm writing a small brochure to teach visitors about some of the architecture in my town, Bedford, PA. We're doing the piece to teach and also to provide a written record of some of the history of our architecture, which includes Dunkle's Gulf Station.
My research into the old Art Deco Gulf station here led me to your website. According to local info (no documentation), the Gulf Station here was designed by Edward J. Weber in 1933. It was a company station.
In your endeavors, have you come across any information about the gas station that you could pass along?
Either way ... thanks. Your site was a lot of fun.

Hi:
I have some valuable information about the earliest (and I mean earliest) days of Gulf Oil. I am directly related to George L. Craig who was my great great grandfather. He wrote a personal history in 1938 that conveys information about his organizing on behalf of the Mellon brothers the interests of Guffey in Texas for what became Gulf Oil. Would you like this document?
In exchange I am wondering if you have any references to any Craig's in your collection or your members might? Particularly George L. Craig or Joseph Craig.

Gulf Devotees,
I have what might be considered an odd request. I am interested in getting the artwork/graphic that appeared on Gulf Oil credit cards of the ‘60s (I think). I am looking for the artwork that had a;
Car on the road in the foreground
A boat on the water in the background
A plane in the air above the water
Any ideas on where I can go to get the above described image.
Thanks,
Bill Toth
Does anyone have railroad tank car historical information?

I am a former Gulf Oil employee (1966 - 1978) Worked mostly in Houston at the credit card center (HTCC). While there I worked with a man by the name of Jack Sabo. In reading the comments from many Gulf Oil employees, I saw a note from Jack and was hoping that if he has an e-mail address on file that you might forward my e-mail address to him. It would be interesting to make contact again after 37 years. Jack's note was sent in 2001 (I think).
Great site by the way.

Good Afternoon,
I am looking to track down anyone that may have worked with my father, Richard C. Kyle, back in the 70's. My father worked in the demolition business and did a lot of work in the refineries of Philadelphia, PA. Please contact me at mgrzywinskblocked::blocked@aol.com if you are able to provide some past work history information from Gulf Oil around that time.
Thank you,

My 83 year old mother remembers getting a Gulf comic newspaper when she was a kid in the 30's growing up on a farm in Ohio. The Gulf oil man would deliver gasoline to them and give the kids this Gulf branded newspaper full of comic strips. She would get quite upset if he forgot, they must have been a big deal back then!
Do you know what these were called and if they are available today?
Thanks

Do you know of anyone who has a copy of the short film “The Dirty Look”? Gulf Oil sponsored it’s making by the Calvin Company out of Kansas City in 1952 or 1954. The film was directed by Robert Altman and I’m trying to find a copy.
Please let me know if you can help.

I am a resident of Tampa, Florida and was employed at the Port Tampa Florida Gulf Oil Terminal from 1972-1985. I have lived in Port Tampa for 33 years and love the history of my community.
Whatever history pertaining to the Port Tampa terminal you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I would especially like to know when the terminal was opened.
All of the buildings and storage tanks on this property are gone now, but I have fond memories of some great years working for Gulf Oil.

In a long story, my husband and I were doing some research after receiving some disturbing news regarding a property we own. We came across two articles regarding the Gulf headquarters building in Odessa, Texas, linked below:
http://www.oaoa.com/news/nw122806c.htm
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=122647
The article mentioned your website as the source to go to for more detail. In the main article, we read that Mr. Mike Killion is seeking to buy this building to restore it, but there is a legal mess and the former owner/restorer, Ms. Jerri Stephenson, can't be found and the restoration, purchase, or whatever can't go forward until she is located.
I have some information regarding this situation, but I need to know more information about what is going on currently, who I can contact regarding this issue, what is the status at this time, etc. Would you happen to have any of this information?
Writing a history of gasoline. I am trying to determine when Gulf first began to sell a leaded grade. It seems that they started right off the bat with everyone else in 1925, but then stopped because of the deaths surrounding its manufacture. Do you know when they started again?
Thanks for any help.
Subject: trivia question
Does anyone in you group know if the extremely high octane gas sold in the "50s" in the "purple" pump was a gulf oil product? Planning activities for a 50th high school reunion and thought that would be a good trivia question -- but I can't remember who sold the gas. I think it was either Gulf or Shell.
Thanks,
Jean
I recently became a member of this group because I am hoping to contact any Gulf Oil workers that lived in the Mene Grande, oil camp at Las Piedras from 1935 till 1940.
My father, Captain Harry Lawler, was the captain of a lake tanker named “Caroni.” My mother Ella, my sister Pamela and myself (Derek) lived in a bungalow near the cliffs over looking the ocean and the long pier where the tankers docked. This dock had a rail track the length of it and a small carriage that carried supplies out to the tankers. Ashore there were large oil storage tanks being built, A clubhouse had a bar and juke box and showed movies weekly. A boy named Johnny Little I recall was a bit younger than myself and some of the local village boys played with me but as for most names I have forgotten them; I was alone much of the time.
I have a lot of photos of the ships, the village and people that I would like to scan and send. They might help some of you remember the camp and the location at Paraguana. I sailed to New York in September, 1940 and have never been back since. I was age 7. I hope to hear from someone who remembers.
Sincerely,
Derek Lawler

Hi
I didn't know where to look or ask so I just decided on here. I am a N scale Model Railroader. I have a 12' module that I take to train shows, I have a Gulf Station model on a street corner. But I would like to use some rail tank cars I have. One of the tank cars is for LP Gas according to the printing. I was wondering if there is some info on fuel distributing plants for Gulf products?
Thank you for your time and effort with this.

I had the opportunity in October 2005 to participate in an aviation archaeology dig at College Park Airport in College Park, MD., the oldest continuously operating airport in the world. We were searching for historical artifacts at the sites of Hangars 1 and 2, which housed some of the original Wright Military Flyers.
One of the items found was a "token" of some kind issued by Gulf Oil. It's a thin white cardboard disk 1 5/16-inches in diameter, with a four-leaf clover on one side (it appears to be a real one) and on the other side is the Gulf logo and the words, "Keeps your car working like a charm." It appears to be laminated. I'm hoping that someone on the forum can provide at least a decade when it was issued. Here are links to photos of the artifact:

RE:belgulf progress
This tanker was built in England, in Glasgow if I remember it correctly. She entered into service in the year 1959 not in 1962. Not that it matters much but I am quite sure about it because boarded her as a crewmember in Antwerp on the 20th of June 1959 to sail to Curaçao and Puerto La Cruz in Venezuela to pick up cargo or gasoil or similar refined fuel for Denmark.
When I was going to college in the early 70's, one of the guys in class had a brother who owned the Gulf station in Clyde, Ohio. It was Chumley's Gulf. I bought a pair of Gulf tires from him for my 64 Nova. I still have the car and still have the tires although they are about 1/2 wore out. Not sure when the station changed from Gulf.
And who can forget the commercials back then about Gulf No-Nox premium gasoline.
Great stuff, glad to see you have a website to keep this alive.

Dear Sir/Ma'am:
My family and I have recently moved to Odessa, Texas. We have become entranced by a 1930's-style Spanish-style building which was the West Texas headquarters of Gulf Oil for many years. The building is badly in need of repair. But, it has been marked for demolition in September of 2006 if it is not purchased and plans made to bring it up to code. It has been saved once by the Texas Historical Commission but this may not be possible again.
Please, do you have any suggestions as to how we might be able to find funding to save this building? Is there any funding made available by Gulf?
Thank you,

My father, Neil (Rusty) Sullivan worked for Texaco in Puerto La Cruz from 1966 to 1973. We were part of Vengref and lived in the Mene Grande Camp with Gulf personnel. I have lots of memories of that special place and time and friends I'd known. It would be great to hear from anyone of you.
Hello Andy Kolhofer! How are things? I heard your family remained in Puerto La Cruz. What has become of the camp, school, and the Terminal Club?
Boyd Gilbert, I was a little boy in 1968 attending grade school at the Vengref Staff School. I remember one day our teacher, Miss Brassington, was telling our class about her date. We asked her what he was like; and she said, "he's kind of quiet." To which we all responded by saying "oh, that means he's boring". She said, "No he isn't boring, he's interesting". A year later she became Mrs. Gilbert. We all enjoyed her classes very much and I still have all my report cards which contain her teacher's comments about me.

I am amazed at some of the collectables in your "Galleries" area.
As a serious Le Mans race fan I have been looking for a LARGE GULF patch. The scheme I am looking for is that found on the famous Blue and Orange Gulf Porsches of the 1970's. I have a few small ones but I need a 8 inch or 10 inch or maybe even a 12 inch diameter patch.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

From: Office of the clerk
Supreme Court Of The United States
Washington 13, D.C.
The document inside is an officially sealed certificate of Minks being an attorney to the United States Supreme Court on Oct. 17Th 1955. We wanted to know if you had any resources to find out the time span that he worked for Gulf Oil. If there was some significances that Gulf Oil had a lawyer at the Supreme Court, what was going on in that time period with the company.
Last of all, how we might go about giving this document to his family, or Gulf Oil type museum?

Hello all, My name is Joseph Edward Burk and I am trying to gather information on my grandfather Eddie O. Watford who was a Gulf Oil Agent in Fla. He worked for Gulf oil from the mid 1920s and was an Agent for 25 years . The station that he ran had the name seaboard oil co. on the sign and the trucks that delivered the gas had Purol gasoline on the side. I think he bought the station along with other property from a man with the last name of Conyers for 11,000.00 dollars in about 1925 or 26. I have some photos of the station that I would like to let you guys have a look at if you wish. Any information would be very helpful.
Thanks and have a very blessed day,

I came across this site about a year ago, and visit the Guest Book every so often. Just wanted to say hello to some of the great people I've worked with. My career with Gulf started in 1959 in Toledo, Ohio, 1963 - 1970 Houston Texas, 1970 - 1985 Atlanta, Ga. 1985 - 1993 Chevron, San Ramon, Ca. All of my Gulf employment was in data processing/credit card end of the business. I still feel pride (and sadness) seeing the Gulf logo during TV sporting events, from the Northeast, always said Gulf should of bought Chevron, but that's another story.
Have a great day!

What a great site! My father was a Gulf Oil bookkeeper in D.C. during WWII. We moved to Fla. in 1949 where he bought a VERY small (two pumps, outside "drive on" rack) Gulf service station. He built that into a three bay beauty and aquired a second location as well. I bought a dealership when I graduated high school but sold it after a little over a year.
I was surprised that your site contains no Gulf Travel Map artwork. The Florida maps were full of cartoon figures engaged in all sorts of liesure activities. I still have one or two of those myself and could probably scan and send to you a few of the images if you like.

Dear Gentlemen:
I heard on NPR today that Dec. 1 was the date of the opening of the first gas/filling station in America located in Pittsburgh. That rang a bell with me, since I'd always heard that my husband's grandfather owned the first gas station in PIttsburgh and it was a Gulf station. Long story short, I searched the web and read the Post Gazette article of July 2000 about the historical marker for the station and the address/location is the location of my husband's grandfather's business. He was Trevor Leonard Smith and the business owned by him, Lewis Smith and another brother. The brothers were immigrants from the UK. Trevor was born in Southhampton, UK. The company name was Lewis G. Smith and Company, Inc. We have some stock certificates from his company and some other letterhead with the address of Baum Blvd. and St. Clair St. I also have pictures of Trevor in front of their business/building and a card/advert with a picture of the Gulf station on it saying they have "Gulf gasoline and accessories." His daughter, my mother in law, also used to say that Trevor worked closely with chauffeurs in Pittsburgh for some of the wealthier citizens. I would be happy to send you copies if you are interested. Out of curiosity, are Lewis G. Smith or Trevor Smith either one mentioned in the historical plaque? Many thanks,
Sincerely,
Ellen Davis

I think he started about 1924 in Houston, Texas when he was 18 years old. He died in Houston in 1951 when he was 45. His name was Eugene E. Abbott and he was adopted ~~ I learned this from the 1920 and 1930 census.
My question to you is ~~~~ Where can I write to get his personel records ?? I am certain I can learn a lot from his file. PLEASE help me if you can !!

Hello............I began work at British American Oil in Toronto in October 1955. Gulf Oil was a major shareholder of B-A at that time and eventually the name was changed to Gulf Canada Limited. The demise of both Gulf Oil Corp and with it, Gulf Canada are probably known by anyone reading this. The upstream side of Gulf Canada was taken over by Petro-Canada, and I was retired from there in 1990. I have always bee interested in things logoed "GULF" and have been particularly surprised to see continued display of the Gulf logo in various parts of the eastern U.S.
I just now have searched the internet and discovered the Gulf history site. I thought I would say "Hi" to any long-lost U.S. colleagues.......glad to see someone is keeping up the name and tradition.
Cheers,

RE: Gulf Oil Tower/Building
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am trying to find out some specific information about the Gulf Oil Tower/Building in Pittsburgh, PA and I was hoping you could help. Many websites list the opening of the building as 1932 but don't list what month in 1932. I am trying to find out so that I may more easily complete some family research.
My grandmother tells me that she worked as a secretary to two lawyers on the 18th floor of the Gulf Tower in 1932 before moving to Canada in November of the same year. Could you tell me what month the building was completed or first opened/tenanted? Also, (I know this is a long shot) if the law firm that was in that space - it wouldn't happen to still be in business would it?
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide.

It is calibrated with marks for "Gasoline in New Tanks"; "Gasoline in Square Tanks": "Gasoline in Oval Tanks" & "Inches for other Cars".
Any help in determining the age, and if there is any value for this item.
Thanks

My grandfather worked for Gulf Oil for approximately 50 years in the marine division. I'm looking for anyone who may know him or can share some stories. His name was Wessel C. Brodhead. He was there from 1926 through the early 70's. He passed away in 1977 from Cancer.

GOHS,
The attached ship photo was taken offshore Democratic Republic of Congo (or DRC for short) - West Africain in ~2003. Gulf operated a number of oil fields offshore DRC since the early 1970's and the Zenith had been moored in place since ~1979 and used as a "floating production and storage facility" for crude oil. Sometime after the Chevron buyout of Gulf in 1984 the vessel was renamed the Chevron Zenith and in ~2002 again renamed the "Bellatrix-Voyager". In June of 2004 Chevron sold the fields and Bellatrix to Perenco. The vessel remains in place and is currently operated by Perenco - a small independent French oil company.

Good Afternoon..had some free time and was searching the web for some stuff from childhood growing up in Ohio.
I have a question..I lived near the Gulf Terminal in Lima and have always wondered from which refinery the supplies came from. Any idea? What was the capacity of Toledo and Cincy?
Thank you.
HI - Name here is Skip Dunderman. I was employed at the Toledo Refinery for some 35 years & 8 months. Started in 1947 and was there as part of the transition team when the refinery closed and was demolished. In going through the list I recognize one name - Stewart Ash. We currently still have a retiree group meeting about 4 times a year but the group is shrinking as we do not have any new gulf retirees in the area to keep us going. Those of us who are left still enjoy getting together.
I found a bottle today in the Laguna Madre (bay between South Padre Island and Port Isabel TX) that reads Gulf Refining Co, Pittsburgh PA. It was uncovered due to erosion and wave action from recent hurricane Emily. Am trying to get info on age and possible product it contained. Can you provide any info?
Enjoyed the site.
Hi --
My name is Charles Jackson, and I'm researching an old (now closed) airport on Long Island, New York.
I'm particularly interested in the old "Gulf" logos (with wings) that appear on the aircraft hangar.
Photos are at http://research.sun.com/zahns/gulf.htm
The logos appear to have the "GULF" letters in white, with Victory Wings in the background.
Would you have any information on this logo?
Thanks so much, Charlie Jackson
Unidentified Gulf Station?
I have a photo postcard, circa 1940, of a "Four Corner Station", "A. Beutnagel" proprietor. It was sold to me as a West Virginia card, but I believe it to be on the Pinellas Trail, near Tampa. Would you be able to confirm?
It is a nice image; I would be glad to email a scan to you.

Hi......I am one of those looking for old pictures of when Gulf began in Venezuela......specifically in Oficina and the building of San Tomé. .......Mene Grande Oil. While I have some pictures, I would like to have more.......and none of my work is for commercial uses or commercial publication. Is there a source to which you might direct me for additional information?

Gulf employee fromm 1966 to 1981 when Chevron acquired the company.
Question: In November 1966 (65?) I was on a bus headed for a high school football playoff and the bus stopped at a station to gas up. They were giving away orange plastic horseshoes (pairs built together) that you attached to the car with either peel off sticky spots or magnets. They MUST have been Gulf because they were orange---our school color. We cleaned them out. I have never seen any again. These were part of a sales campaign about getting a "kick" out of your gasoline or something. Any idea what I'm remembering? Think they were Gulf ? Thanks
Hello
The Gulf Company said maybe you could help me.
My grandfather bought stock in The Pittsburgh Oil Company of Braddock, PA in 1920. I have never been able to find anything about this company. If you know anything about it please let me know.
Thank you for reading my email

Hi,
I noticed the question on the Gulf racing blue and orange but couldn't find the answer. Would you be able to e-mail me those paint codes?
Thanks,

I have acquired 3 envelopes measuring 10”x7” which are promotional items for Gulf Oil Co. They are all identical. The envelope which has a clasp on the back, says “the TOURGUIDE PORTFOLIO you asked for.” “from GULF” and at the bottom it says “TOURGUIDE BUREAU Gulf building Pittsburgh 30, PA”. There is a recreational scene of the cover of the envelope with a car in the middle which looks to be from the 40’s or early 50’s. All three are in excellent condition and would be an interesting addition to someone’s collection. I can scan them to see, if anyone’s interested. Thank you very much for the opportunity to offer this. I can be reached at bcampbell435[blocked:blocked]@hotmail.com
My father, William L. Walsh, Ph.D. (Carnegie Institute of Technology), was a Senior Research Chemist at Gulf Research in Harmarville for 19 years [1954-1973]. He produced several patents for Gulf during his tenure.
For several years, in June, our family would accompany him to the Gordon Research Conference in New London, New Hampshire.
Is there any specific archive of Gulf patents and other scientific papers produced by Gulf scientists?
Any information, regarding this question, would be appreciated. I can be contacted at the following electronic mail address:

There was somebody in here looking for a downtown picture of the Houston Skyline with the Gulf Oil sign on top of the building. I have one I will need to make a print of it. I will not sell the original. The picture is much clearer than this. It is in a frame and would have to be removed to be scanned.

Keep up the great work! Job well done.
I was happy to find your web site and hope that someone will be able to assist me in a search. I have been attempting to locate the type of Camaro that was used in a Gulf Oil commercial in the late 60's early 70's. The car is a Camaro and the commercial was shot at the old Daytona track on the asphalt part of the beach track. The commercial had little dialog, just the sound of the car going through the gears to over 100 MPH. Then the narrator came and announced the speed and said, "... And not even a ping." That commercial has stuck in my mind all these years and I would like to find out as much about the type of Camaro that was used. If someone has the commercial archived that would be fantastic.
Thank you for your assistance.

Do your records include any information about Gulf's purchase of a company named Paragon Oil (Toledo, OH) in or about 1928? The reproduction below is reported to be a vintage logo of Paragon. Note that the logo indicates that they are Producers, Refiners and Distributors. Apparently, a similar sign with Oil substituted for Gasolene and a green triangle rather than the red exists.
I remember that Gulf manufactured a Paragon brand oil - I think that I remember that it was a transformer oil.
Would appreciate any information you have.

I am looking for info on the 1975 Gulf Oil Refinery Fire in Philadelphia. Do you have Anything you can send to me? Thanks.
Has anyone in your organization seen or has the video that was produced in 1966 on the construction of the neon Gulf sign that was once on the top of the Gulf Building in Houston? I have been a Gulf Oil collector for many years and would like to know if this is worth adding to my collection?
Thank you.
We have an old metal gulf dealer sign which is prob about 5 feet in diameter. How old is it and how do we find an interest in a new home for it?

My dad Al Bergeron gave over 50 years of his life to Gulf/Chevron as a field gauger in Grand Bay, near Buras/Venice, LA. We lived in track housing made of asbestos siding (back in the fifites, we thought it was neat) The three streets were called the Gulf Camps of Thriumph, LA. We lived on Pipeline Dr, sixty miles south of New Orleans, until Hurricaine Camille wiped the entire area off of the map. (Yes, contrairy to popular belief, Camille devistated the lower Plaquemines Parish area before it reached the now Casino ridden Gulf Coast. Gulf hired me to work at Ostrica Oil Terminal ( 1966-1969, it was the largest inland oil terminal in the world) I came close to losing my life there three times. The last near death experience was on the Destsco barge with four other college mates who were working the graveyard shift during summer break from college. Thanks to Gulf oil's policy of hiring employees sons to work during their college summers, I made good money and continued my education. I am currently writing a novel and one of my early memories of the "Gulf King", on which I once got to eat lunch with the Captain and my Dad is in the first chapter. Does anyone have a picture of the King during the early 1940's?
Sincerely,
Larry (Little Al) Bergeron

I am looking for information regarding my grandfather Peter J. Sigona. He was Captain of the Gulfprince in 1942. I would like any information on other ships he sailed on and maybe any pictures of those ships. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1979 and I was too young to know his place in history.
Thanks,

During August 1960 I worked on the launch crew of the Tanker "Gulf Oil". I was stationed on the fire watch launch crew as she went down the ways at Bethlehem Steels Sparrows Point Yard. I have always been curious what has happened to her thru the past 45 years. Is she still in service? If not where is she or has she been scrapped.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Hello, I'm looking for a Gulf Oil map from the 1950's or 1960's to purchase for a friend who would like to have one. I have tried e-bay and just missed one. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you so much. Jonnie Crelan
Your correspondent John Maerske and your members may be interested to know that a book has been published recently about the history of Gulf’s involvement in motorsport. Query on Gulf TV commercial...
I'm trying to locate a copy of the Gulf Oil TV commercial that aired on NBC during the Apollo space program coverage, and featured the tankers that brought oil into Bantry Bay (Universe Ireland, etc.). I have most of the words to the song in that commercial, but are missing a few, and would love to see the video of the tankers again!
Any idea who might have this commercial on videotape?
Randy Ward
Thank you for having a great site on Gulf!
I found your site through Google, I'm looking for a copy of a Gulf Oil Television Commercial widely shown in the late '60's, in which the song "Bringing Home the Oil" is sung. I haven't been able to find it anywhere, and I thought that you might have a handle on where this song may be hiding.
I appreciate any info you can give me on this.

Hello,
I purchased a Certificate from Gulf Oil Company to a Mr. Sam Foschini in appreciation of a business relationship since 1933. I was wondering if there was anyway to track down this dealer (I'm assuming that he was)? It would interesting to find info or even better, a picture of his station from the 30's.
BTW, I like your site. Just found it today. I'm not a member but I've got a lighted Gulf sign in addition to this Certificate.
Thanks for any help.

I am trying to find anyone who was on the Gulf King. My husband's uncle was on board in May of 1942. We would like find a photo or anything we can about the ship in its days in the gulf. He was a oiler on the ship. Please send me an email if you have photos or any information.
I currently own a truck that was allegedly a Gulf Oil fuel tanker at an airport in the southeastern United States. It is a 1947 Chevrolet 1 ton panel that was converted by Chevrolet to a dually. The tank was inside, with a PTO cable running through the wooden floor from the transmission to the pump. To ventilate fumes the rear door glass was replaced by louvered sheet metal and there are two vents added in the roof. There is also a large patch in the roof near the rear doors that I believe was the filler for the tank.
My truck is still orange (repainted, I'm certain), but someone has painted murals on the side, covering any Gulf logos. (alas!)
Any way, you can see a picture of it here.
As you can imagine, I am seeking history on it, and considering how it will be done, (restored, modernized, etc.)
My questions to you are:
I am building a website. Do you mind if I include a link to your site? Do you have any knowledge of this particular model being used as a tanker?
Respectfully,
Brad Birdnow

I have a Gulf Flying Service key chain that I got through Gulf Oil Av-Gas (aviation gas) back in the mid 70’s at Latrobe Aviation, Latrobe Airport, PA. The front has four stages of flight with the Concorde being the bottom and most recent stage. My registration number is 3442 and it says if lost drop in any mail box and it will go to:
Gulf Flying Service
PO Box 1519
Houston, TX 77001
I use this key chain to today. How many others are out there and still being used? Mine looks as good today as it did 30 years ago. Maybe the edges are not as rough. If you have any information on this please e-mail me.

Hi,
I found your web page while looking for some info on Oxford Kansas. I see that Buzz Houston is from Oxford. Is there some way I could get in touch with Buzz? Evening,
I am seriously considering starting a Gulf collection...as of right now just have a real nice zippo lighter with the gulf logo on it, was supposedly handed out to executives on the company's plane back in the day.
Is there a book that I should get concerning Gulf collectibles?
Am curious as to what the octane rating was for Gulf gas back in the 50s-70s..
Gulftane was the low end gas? Then Good Gulf? Then No-Nox, then Gulf Crest?
I am in my 30s and remember some of the old Gulf pumps from stations in New England, way back in the 70s...but I don't know what the octane ratings were.
Thanks
John
Good day,
My name is John Maerzke, a retiree from Chevron. I've done a little consulting for the company dealing with licensing the Gulf trademark with companies producing replica models.
I'm writing you to inquire whether you might have any information relating to the Gulf sponsored LeMans race cars, any documentation or recollection or know of someone who does. My current understanding is that the company, that is Gulf Oil Corporation, owned the cars and paid automotive engineers, drivers and other teams to carry out the racing programs. So this is what I would like to confirm if you might be able to help me.
Thanks for considering this and for any help.
To whom it may concern,
I'm trying to obtain any information/value of a book belonging to my grandfather. The book is "Gulf 50" by Craig Thompson. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your time,
Robert Thorden
I came across your website, WOW. I've been looking for a Gulf patch to sew onto the back of my car club jacket. One like what was used from the 60's on, maybe 6" in diameter.
I see Mike Smyth has a collection of patches, or if any of your other members could help me out. (I see Alex Colwell listed on your site. I've actually purchased a couple B/A patches from Alex).
Please let me know if you can steer me in the right direction.
Thanks,

Hello from a Gulf fan.
Hello Gulf people, i just randomly stumbled upon your website, i am the daughter of Kermit Doucet. I am Tara Doucet and I just wanted to let you know that I think that what you all are doing is wonderful; although, you could say that I am a little bit biased because my father was so supportive of it. I had a great respect for the Gulf company and what it stood for, even as a child I remember my father teaching me about the importance of a good day's work and honesty; consequently, these were two things he associated with his childhood and with the Gulf Oil Company. I just wanted to say that it pleases me that people are still carrying on this tradition that my father cared about so much. Thank You.
1960 Gulf Oil Baseball Cards
I am trying to authenticate a baseball card of Roger Maris which was supposedly given out along with others during the '60's on a weekly basis at Gulf gas stations.
Can you help?

EARLY GULF STATION?
Hello,
On the northeast corner of Kelly Street & North Lang in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh, there are the remains of what appears to be a very early Gulf Station. How can I find photographs or other records of Gulf Oil that might help?

I am interested in obtaining the Orange Disc magazine dated Jan./Feb. 1945. There is an article re the Gloucester fishing fleet and my picture is on the cover as well. Because I am writing my memoirs, it is important to me that I have this issue.

My name is Robert W. Eden my father William D. Was wondering if the GOHS would be interested in some of my Dad’s collection ? We are simply running out of room to put things. I have picked out a good many to hang on to, but thought you guys might be interested in the rest as a donation. Thought maybe you could use it for auctions or door prizes etc at annual meetings. It is 2 boxes worth – some railroad cars, lots of maps, pens etc, a few framed pictures, some editions of the Gulf magazine, radios, ashtrays, asst keychains, screwdrivers etc Send an address if you are interested and I’ll send them to you. Mark Lockerman
My name is Ernest Walker Sanders, Jr. My dad was an officer on some of these ships back in the late 50's and early 60's, one being the Gulfprince. If you have any employee listings I would be thankful.
I am researching a possible magazine article on the collision and fire between the tankers "Gulfoil" and "SE Graham" in Narragansett Bay on August 7, 1958. I am particularly interested in the US Navy's efforts in firefighting and recovery. I would very much appreciate any information you can provide.
Thank You

Dear Webmaster, I looked at your website with interest and must say it looks good. My interest in Gulf Oil is that my father Capt Arthur Edward Lang was employed by Gulf on the coast of Venezuela. He was in command of several of the tankers then used by the MGO company subsidiary of Gulf Oil. For some years my brother Gordon and I lived at Maracaibo camp. I read on your guestbook page of a Susan Mortlock Benedetto location New York City who left comments on the 17th May 2004. If she would like to get in touch my home e-mail address is .... I'm a real estate consultant in San Francisco, and I'm dealing with a property in Morgan Hill, CA that reportedly was a Gulf Oil service station. To Whom It May Concern, My grandfather David Carlton Hambrick, Sr., worked for Gulf as a mechanic for over 30 years. I am writing a short story set in 1929. As part of the background details, I wanted to include a stop at a Gulf station. As the story is set in Dallas, Texas, could you let me know if there was indeed a filling station in the area? I can use writer's liberty and add one if I so deem, but wanted to make the piece as historically accurate as possible. My thanks for your assistance! Hello! Great site. Can anyone tell me if there were any Gulf stations in Wisconsin in the 1950s-1960s? Thanks! Greg Eck
Hi, My grandfather started working for Gulf Oil Co. right out of business college - probably in about 1930. I have a pic of him sitting behind the desk at the Gulf Oil office in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1935. Later, the family moved to the Canton/Akron area in Ohio and when my mom married in 1956 he had purchased a Gulf Oil distributorship in Lansing, Ohio. I can still hear my dad say "fill it up with Good Gulf" whenever we pulled into a station. The sight is looking good! Kim Shutway

I'd like to hear from the Lang Brothers, as I was unable to contact them on this site. My family was in Maracaibo at he same time, and traveled on the Managas, perhaps with their father as captain, and knew Grady Davis well. I'd love to hear from any MGO Maracaibo or Venezuela people!
Gulf Oil Corp. published a company magazine ''Orange Disc''. The Jan./Feb. 1945 issue featured a story about the Gloucester fishing fleet and its wartime consumption of Gulf Oil products. Appearing on the cover of that Disc issue, is a 12-year old boy shown looking over the local fishing fleet. I am that boy and I would like to obtain a copy of that particular publication. Now 71 years old, I am writing my memoirs and would very much like to use the Disc cover as an illustration. Is there another website that I should use to obtain a copy? Perhaps someone out there can help me.

If anyone remembers my dad, I'd love to hear your stories/memories. Thanks!
Would appreciate you contacting me if you have pictures of very early San Tome, Oficina, ''Campo Lona'', early MGO planes, housing, anything related to that camp in Eastern Venezuela. This information is for personal use and not for profit. Thanks!

My name is Amy I am the daughter of Gary Baer, he worked at Gulf Oil in Cleves, OH when I was little. He was resently killed by a school bus hitting him in his Dodge Ram Truck. He was fully vest after the company was shut down, is their any one out there that can help me with information or phone numbers. Thank you Amy
Dad retired from Gulf in 1975 and has several cross pens, where can I find out who wants them? He started with Gulf in Kilgore.
Just found out about your site. My Dad retired with Gulf and I worked for them until that other company bought them in 84. Retired with them in 95. Have lots of Gulf stuff and looking forward to joining your group.
Sunk T2 Tanker No. 10 Gulfland. This tanker's Bow is resting in 40 ft. of water just north of Jupiter Florida. I have dived many times on it. Always a lot of barracuda and sharks present. It had a large Jew fish in a bow hole that was estimated at 1,000#. It blew me backward when I got too close. I heard that he was later killed with a bang stick. What a pity. His name was Big Joe. All local divers knew him. I hope we are talking about the same ship. Thank you, John Messick
My father, Carroll H. Kehne, also operated a Gulf Station in Frederick Md for over forty years. I most recently completed a signed limited edition print of the 1950s view. It was a landmark icon, however, was torn down in the 80s. Harry Truman once stopped in 1953. I have pics and the original Coke bottle from which he drank his coke. Great memories.

My grandfather started working for Gulf Oil in 1909 in Beaumont when he was hired by Mr. McGruff(?) who's wife worked for my great-grandfathers (JF Lanier) in his law office. My granfather(Douglas Lanier) started the Land Leasing dept and was the ONLY Land Leaseing mgr. They closed that office when he retired after 45 yrs. Gulf Oil allowed him to keep his office in the Gulf building in Houston after he retired and all the furnishings. He kept his office until the early 1970's. I still have some of the office furniture w/ the Gulf metal tags on them, along w/ all of my granfathers Gulf Oil service pins. I also have some old land plats that my grandfather used.
WORKED IN ACCOUNTING PHILA REFINERY AND BALA CYNWYD, PA. STARTED GULF 1959 - SEVERED WITH MERGER DEC. 1985
I worked for Gulf Oil in Houston from '81 until it was absorbed by Chevron. I'm still with them, but have been starting to collect old Gulf memorabilia.
My father, Rolland K. Black was associated with Gulf as a service station attendent and dealer for 51 years most at forbes and murray avs. in sq hill section of Pgh.I have lots of pics, plaques, books, etc.Would be willing to share info.
My father Captain Arthur Lang was an employee of MGO and captained several of the small tankers moving oil in lake Maracaibo. I was born at Maracaibo General Hospital in 1941. We lived for a time at Maracibo my friends at this camp were Steve Polinski, Steve Kerr and john Poutis. I remember the Steve Polinski's mother made candy and his father had a lionel train set. My brother Gordon has already made an entry on this board. It would be interesting to know what happened to the Tankers where they were made and some details of the crews. I remember that the 1st officer on my dad ship was Rolf Williamson. He attempted to teach me how to fish. There was also Dr. Aserhill, and Dr Rinoso who my parents knew but not certain which camp they were attached to.
My dad was a tanker captain for MGO in Venezuela 1934-1955. I was born in Cabimas and went to Cardon school 1948-1950when i returned to uk.i met grady davis(gulfvice-president)again in 1972 at brands hatch when he was involved in the Gulf sportscar team. His family were good friends of my parents but lost touch after my father died in 1958.The oil tankers my father captained were the Apure,Paez,Monagas & others taking oil from lake maracaibo to deep-sea terminals. our last residence was Las Piedras near Puntofio.I would like to hear from any one who has any memories, news or historical info.
Hi my grandfather ran a Gulf station in Augusta, Ohio from about 1921 thru 1976.
I am the daughter of Kermit A. Doucet, one of the founders of this club. Thank you for keeping his name on your site. I never fully understood his fascination with Gulf memorabilia, but am warmed by the fact that he found such good company in his fellow collectors, and is remembered. He would be amazed to know his name lives on through the internet!
Im bilding a old Gulf station in Sweden.
I am gathering information to restore a 1930 Gulf tank car at the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville, Indiana. The car was painted in the late 60's with GULF spelled out in large letters. We would like to refinish it in an earlier paint scheme, using the circle logo on one end like the Lionel cars. The current car number is WRNX 14141, but when the sun is just right, we think we can barely see GRCX and bits of a different number under the current paint. I hope that someone might know where to find the history for this series of cars. This is one of eleven antique freight cars donated to ITM by Alcoa Aluminum in Lafayette, In. several years ago. When I called Gulf headquarters when the car arrived, I was told it was the only one of its class remaining, which was the largest fleet of identical tank cars ever made. I haven't confirmed that, but it sounds good. Alcoa bought several tank cars to cut down and convert into flat cars, but fortunately they missed this one. Any information will be most appreciated. The museum web site is www.ITM.org. GULFpreslerc[blocked:blocked]@fsip.com
I collect everything from British Petroleum from the years between 1923,when they started in Sweden, and 1958,when the new logotype was introduced.Does anyone know if i can find a site like this "Good Gulf site" for BP collectors?

My grandfather ran a Gulf Station when it was new in 1967.He stayed when Gulf pulled out of Central Indiana around 1973 or 1974,then it changed to PRO (Petroleum Retailers Organization). It was formed by Old Gulf Oil dealers in Minnesota.I don't think it last very long.My grandfather left in 1976.The station had 2 bays that was on either end. He came back in 1988 to run the station & it's a Phillips 66 Station now.He retired in 2000 & passed away in 2001.I've been collcting oil tanker trucks.I acquired a 1950's Gulf Station that has a clock & lights up.
I worked as an Oprator at the Cincinnati Refinery from 1972-1983
I served as Purser/Pharmacists Mate with Capt. B.P. Bobbitt, Captain of the S/S Gulfking. I enjoyed working with the Gulf Oil family. They were a fine group of people. Or of Roscoe Turner, the famous aviator of the 30's and his famous Grumman Navy Fighter "GulfHawk" ?. Anyone else around that attended the old Bella Vista School that served the Standard, Shell , and Gulf camps in Maracaibo?? C.frothingham[blocked:blocked]@comcast.net

Hi everybody. I have been reading comments in the guestbook and it really touched my heart to see that employees of Gulf and their children and grandchildren remember Gulf fondly and feel such a strong bond with this brand even after so many years. I am working with Gulf Oil Intl. as a Brand Manager for last 2 years and it is impossible not to be captivated by the passion this brand evokes. What is moving is that inspite of being one of the largest and most profitable corporations in the oil history, Gulf achieved its business objectives while retaining human values and ethics. Although Gulf today has changed dramatically in its business structure but I hope that the human bond with this magical brand will continue. I hope I too can look back in 30 years time and say that I am proud that I am part of this inimatable, unique family called Gulf Oil. My best wishes to all.
1958 to 1985 then BP till retirement in 1990. La. Miss. Tn. Fl.
1954 to Chevron Buy out then to BP Retited 1991
when i was younger i worked for seven yr. at Gulf now i am trying to make my garage looklike a old Gulf station
Started with Gulf at the Port Arthur Refinery in 1980 till the merger with Chevron. I now work for Chevron Phillips at the Orange Plant.
I'm trying to get information about the construction of a pipe line by Gulf Pipe Line Co. of Texas. The line carried crude oil from the Glenn Pool in Okla. to Port Arthur, TX. I grew up near the Saltillo Station on the line. Several relatives were employees of the pipe line division: O. B. Cowser, Boyd Wardrup, Bruce Wardrup, John Jennings, and Royal E. Wilder. Sincerely, Bob Cowser
Hi All, My Dad worked for Gulf for 37 years. He started at GR&DC in Harmarville while attending U of Pitt and worked cleaning out the grease pits (he always told us and it sounded rough). We moved to Houston in 1971 and grew to love Texas. My family still lives there although I still live here in Pgh, PA. I was inspired to do a search of GULF when I saw the logo on tonights Pirate game and I just could not believe that they still use the Orange Disc. My Dad retired as Manager of Petroleum Products from GR&DC in the mid 80's and passed away in 1992. He had a few good years to enjoy himself. Gulf was so much a part of my life growing up. I have fond memories of the connection between Gulf and Holiday Inn when we would go on vacation. God Bless the Gulf Employees that made one of the greatest companies in the world. DFK
Can anyone tell me what the "Gulf Capsule of History" is? This document (assuming it was a document) was mentioned as the source for some information regarding theories develped by a Gulf employee, William Henry Bowers, on the solubility of gases.
I currently work at The Gulf Building in Pittsburgh as a Project Manager. It's now officially called the Gulf Tower. There are a lot of things still here that force you to remember that the Gulf organization used to run the show here. There are still a few people here that worked here when it was the Gulf office building. I'm pretty sure Gulf sold it in early 1986. Drop me a line, maybe I'll show ya around.
Can any one help me I am trying to find out about the Gulf Oil Marbles Team that play at Tinsley Green, England in 1975 & 1976. If there is any one who has information I would love to hear from them - Regards Sam McCarthy-Fox, Tinsley Green
Marki Rodriguez

hello
Worked for Gulf (Los Angeles and Houston) from 1965 to 1985 at which time transferred to San Ramon, CA with Chevron. Retired from Chevron in 1998.
My father, A.J. Nabers, worked at the Gulf pumping station in Valmeyer, Illinois (1942-1970's). I would be interested hearing from any families that worked at the Valmeyer, IL or Dublin, Indiana stations.
My grandfather, whom I am named after, worked for Gulf Oil for over 42 years (from abt. 1916 to 1958). I am not sure of his exact title but know he was in management. He mainly lived in Oklahoma (such as Avant, Boston Lease in Cleveland County, etc.)but also lived in Valmeyer, ILL in early 1940's. Would love to talk with anyone about the history of Gulf Oil, especially regarding it's place here in NE Oklahoma. I have several photos of various oil rigs and pump stations where he worked, from the 20' to 40's.
Hello, Great site. I have worked for two years by the Gulf. Now I am a big fan of it. I make pictures from al the tankstations in the Netherlands and I collecting all the Items of Gulf. Greetings from Ursula!

Just found this site while searching for Gulf Oil Memorabilia. My father use to have a Gulf Oil Station, in Wildwood, New Jersey back in the late 50's early 60's. Very nice to look at the old stations.
HI, IAM TRYING TO GET HISTORY ON MY UNCLE THAT WORKRD FOR GULF IN PITTSBURG, PA. WOODROW ELY. I THINK HE WORKED THERE FOR FORTY FIVE YEARS.THANKS. CG CONAWAY
Worked for distributor in Johnstown Pa. Retired June 2001
Retired 1983
Both of my grandfather's worked/retired from the "Guffy" Port Arthur refinery, my father, uncle and father in law all worked/retired from the Port Arthur facility while it was still "The Gulf". As a kid growing up in Port Arthur there were two major employers, Gulf and Texaco, there was always some level of competition between the "Gulf kids' and the "Texaco kids". I am a collector of Gulf items and after the change to Chevron (and all of the Gulf stations in Port Arthur went away) I was visiting Danbury, Conneticut and there was a Gulf station around the corner from my hotel. I purchased quarts of oil, lighter fluid, etc. and the owner gave me an old banner (thought I was going to have to throw away clothes to get it all in my suitcase). I was thrilled to find your wedsite, thanks for keeping the orange disk alive.
Just and old timer who would like to here from some he worked with years ago.
I am interested in finding a commercial for Gulf Oil Company that a friend mine made about 50 years ago in Bat Cave, NC She wa young, tanned and stunning but very shy and was forced to attend an "audition" at a local church. She was picked immediately "by men from New York" and other local people were chasen to be her family. The commercial called for them to be riding in a convertible pulling a boat and was made on state road 9. She remembers it took 14 takes. Her name is Rosemary Freeman (Mrs. Harvey Freeman( from Bat Cave NC. She said her aunt in Cincinati saw the ad on TV. It would thrill my friend to death if I could get a copy of this ad. Has anyone seen it or can you help me? thank!!
Hi: I visited your site as I was searching for some historical information. Has anyone ever heard of "Blindman Valley Oil Co., Limited" or "The Wetaskiwin-Alberta Oils, Limited". In going through some old documents I came upon some old share certificates of these two companies. Both share certificates were dated 1914. It peaked my curiosity and I wondered what happened to them. If anyone is familiar with these two companies or has any information on where I could research them I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Peggy Zorn
Began as Service Station Attendant on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Oct '57, and retired from Chevron as Communicaations Analyst in Houston in Oct '92. Gulf assited me in receiving my Associate Degree in accounting, and Bachelors in Management and Accounting from the Univ. of Penna Wharton School; I have always been very grateful for that!!! Really enjoyed my career, friendships, and locations where I worked with the Company!! It was a wonderful time to be emplyed by a wonderful, employee-centered Company!! Larry Hesketh
My 88 year old dad wanted to know "whatever happened to Gluf Oil" so I got on the 'grey box' for him He is Les Roberts andhad a FBO in Lakeland, FL for almost 50 years. Bought and a LOT of Gulf Oil products - mostly avaiation fuel! GULF sponsored the ALL AMERICAN AIR MANUEVERS in Miami, FL for years! GULF gave the fuel FREE to any pilot attending the event! Lots of good old stories about that event. And of course, I learned to read by seeing the signs! Great site! Dad sold Texaco aviation fuel but fondly remembers GULF. Thanks for this opportuntiy.
Worked for Gulf as a geophysicist from 1969 to 1985, then took an early, early retirement.
Did anyone ever work with JOSEPH J. MINUTOLI at GULF in a Manhattan office? (Probably in the early 1950's) Please e-mail. Thank you.
As a son of an old Gulf employee 1921 to 1928. We lived in Gulf Hill or Gulf Camp In Pelly, Texas and have a lot of fond memories but alas no pictures of this camp. Should anyone have any pictures please scan and e-mail them to me at the above address. Thank you so much.
Just found this site! My uncle Jack Ebert started working for Gulf in the 20's and got my father Ralph Ebert a job in the early 30's. He worked for them for 37& 1/2 yr4s. Mostly in Research & Development. When closed down that Dept. He switched to Production until his retirement. I have wonderful memories of being a Gulf Kid! Would love to visit with anyone who remembers those days.
I never worked for Gulf. I am formerly of Pittsburgh PA. Bostons neon Citgo sign has received a lot of recognition. In Pittsburgh, we had neon Gulf signs of that nature. Boy were they huge! Please tell me someone els of all the ex gulfers and Gulf fans remembers these signs. I'd like to see a miracle and one of the neon signs come back! Thanks. David.
This is a very interesting website. I found this site because I was looking for info on some of the Gulf Oil ships that I sailed on. The search engine picked a reference to the Gulf Seal out of this guestbook. I was third assistant, second and first assistant engineer on a number of Gulf ships from 1970 to 1975. These were some of the best and most interesting years of my life. Hard to believe, but I'd like to see Port Arthur again. After spending months running from Ostrica, LA to the Hog Island terminal in Philadelphia (but out in the middle of nowhere) Port Arthur was the big city. I'd like to hear from any of the guys that I worked with.................
Good to see something remains of Gulf. I worked for Gulf Research and Development,System and Control, in Harmarville, Pa. Best group of people, I ever worked with in my career. What ever happens to the pension fund?
My grandfather R.L. Nelson was employed by Gulf Oil Co. I believe. Maybe from the early 1900's to 193?. I always heard he had an office in Tulsa, he died in 1939 and is buried at Broken Arrow. If there is any way I can find out anything else about him being employed there I would appreciate it. He was also acquainted with the Phillips Brothers. I have heard a lot of oil business stories taken place in the 1910's, 20's and 30's from my dad.
Started at the old Baltimore District on Macon Street as a Retail Clerk, then became Human Resources Supervisor, then Operations Analyst and finaly Maintenance Disptacher when Chevron took over. John Poling was our District Manager way back then. What a gentleman. Then came Frank Odom, Gaylon Simmons, Bob Bradley and Larry Walker. All great Managers. What a fantastic group of people we had. I see that some of my old compadres have written in....what a wonderful way to keep in touch. Keep up the good work! I still have an old Gulf Oil gas pump telephone (still works) that I am holding onto.
Started with Gulf in 1961 in the old Eastern Division as a I.B.M. machine operator. ln 1968 transferred to retail marketing and worked in the Bucks County, Pa. area. ln 1971 transferred to New jersey and stayed as a rep.untill l retired in 1991. Glad to see so many Gulf people still around.
Hello folks, how are you? Good luck whit your organisation .
My father accepted employment with Gulf Oil Co. in 1937. In 1938 the rest of the family sailed south on the SS Gulfhawk to Maracaibo, and assignment to quarters in the old Mene Grande Camp, on the shores of the Lake. I attended Bella Vista School in 38-39-40. We returned to the US in 1940 aboard the same ship the SS Gulfhawk, Capt. Percy Thomas, commanding. I have many old photo's of life in the camps at that time, even a shot of the old Pan Am clipper, that used to fly in everySaturday from Brownsville, Texas. Would be happy to hear from anyone that might be still standing up right from the "Good Old Days!" Thanks for maintaining a great site.. Frostyaye
JUNE 1962 TO MAY 1997
Hired by Gulf Oil Corporation 1 August 1963. Retired from ChevronTexaco Corporation 29 June 2002. Worked for Gulf and Chevron in Houston, Nigeria, Gabon, Angola, Australia and Papua New Guinea and worked for American Overseas Petroleum Limited (Amoseas), a Caltex Group Company, in Houston.
I am just starting as a collector of Gulf oil artifacts. My dad, grandad, and Uncles were all employed by Gulf. My Grandfather started at the Port Arthur Refinery around 1925. My Uncle was a Captain on several Gulf Tankers and My Dad and Uncle were employed at the Port Arthur Refinery their entire life. I visted the refinery from the tie I was a small boy.
Even though we, in a sense, compete, I'm glad that groups like yourselves are preserving signage and providing information for those also interested in the history. Keep up the good work.
worked on the uk gulf contract 1990-1998. until it was sold to shell and disbanded unfortunatly. great time of my life worked hard but also made some fantastic friends. so sad it had to end!!

looking for collectible items with Gulf. racing products (Porsche) etc. Service Stations etc.
while visiting in Puerto Rico this past week, we saw Gulf service stations...whereas we began to speculate as to who bought Gulf. We believe that BP now operates the locations in NC we remember as Gulf stations. Can someone set the record straight for us? Thanks
My grandfather ran Purkey's Gulf in Franklin,Ohio for 37 years.I have lots of memories of those days.Great to see People saving history.Great,job.Purkey
I STARTED WITH GULF IN THE CIVIL ENGINEEERING DEPARTMENT IN HOUSTON ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1944 AND RETIRED FROM GULF ON NOVEMBER 30, 1982 AS MANAGER OF FACILITIES IN THE CORPORATE REAL ESTATE DEPARTMENT. I HAD MANY YEARS OF GOOD MEMORIES WITH GULF AND MADE A HOST OF DEAR FRIENDS.
Wow, 40 years ago hired in at Port Arthur.
As an 'Old Guffy" (17 years - Port Arthur Refy, Toledo Refy, and Houston) it was great visiting this site and seeing some old friends.
Just passing through while doing some research for a vintage Gulf service station attendant hat I am auctioning on Ebay. I found the site most informative. Thank you very much!
Of course, Gulf, Milford Haven closed in 1997, not 1977!
I worked as a Chemical Engineer at Gulf's Milford Haven refinery for nearly 20 years until it closed in 1977. Some of my best and most interesting years. I've read that the Gulf brand is being resurrected in the north-east US, and there is at least one Gulf-branded station in the UK, near Spalding, Lincs. Let's hope this is the start of a trend.
Would like to say HI to all as the new Sec/Tres. of the GOHS. I hope I can fill everyones expectations. I want to see GOHS here for many years to come. What a great job everyone has done.
I'm a Ham Radio operator who operates a "Bookworm Net" or radio network discussing various books. We have been going through Daniel Yergin's book, "The Prize". This is a wonderful book, and started my research on Gulf Oil. I would really like to chat with others who are intrigued by this sort of effort and enterprize. The oil business seems to be something I should have taken better note of when I was a kid. I grew up only a few miles away from "Richfield", and I have since then done some instrumentation electronics work for various petrochemical companies.
WORKED AT A GULF STATION AS A TEENAGER. I HAVE COLLECTED FORD, COCA-COLA, PEPBOYS AND GULF OIL. GREAT SITE

I WAS SO HAPPY TO FIND THE SITE. THE JEANNETTE R. STUKE FILLING STATION/GULF COUNTRY STORE IS ONE OF THE OLDEST IN THIS AREA. IT WAS SINCLAIR BEFORE AND BECAME GULF IN 1950. MY AUNT JEANNETTE DIED IN 1998 AND I AM OPERATING THE STATION NOW. I AM A JAZZ SINGER FROM THE GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA, SO MUSIC IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR LITTLE STATION...AS IS GULF.....HOPE TO ATTEND YOUR NEXT MEETING GOOD MUSIC AND GOOD GULF.....
Started working for Gulf 20 Years ago at the Port Arthur Refinery in the Utilities Department as the "Head Boilerwasher".
My first day at Gulf Oil was Aug. 4, 1969 at 712 Main St., Houston, Texas, as a teletype operator in the Communications Department. I worked for Gulf in 2 Houston Center, Westbelt Center and the Wilcrest Center in Houstonm too. I retired from Chevron in Aug. 1996 in Midland, Texas.

My Grandfather ( Charles A. Torbett) started a Gulf Oil Distributorship in New Tazewell Tenn in the 1920s. The company is still there(although it is BP) and is ran by my uncle C.A. (Bud) Torbett to this day.
Hoping that someone can help me. I am looking for information on a compant called Seconia Vacuam.. Oil company once upon a time in Michigan. the first word may be spelt wrong.. Thank in advance..
Nice and informative web site. From 1951 to 1953 I worked as a grunt in the Material Accounting Department on the 7th floor of the Gulf annex building in Houston, TX. If any of you of this vintage that worked in the Houston office are out there would love to hear from you.
Just found this great site. It was fun looking at all the messages and recognizing a lot of names. I started at Gulf Research in 1964 and worked in Technical Services until 1976 when I became the aviation quality control engineer in the southeastern US. In 1985 I went with Sohio(thenBP)and worked as the Technical Service Mgr until retirement in 1999. Would love to hear from any old friends who may read this.
Good Old Gulf..
Nice Web Page - Gulf will always hold a place in my heart since they are the company that hired me 22 years ago.
I worked in Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1985. I have been with Chevron until 2001 and am now working for ChevronTexaco.
My Dad worked for Gulf in Pittsburgh from 1940 to 1960. I worked for Gulf from 1970 until Chevron bought us out in 1986. I understand that Gulf lubricants is going back on the market.
Gulf Oil Chemicals survives today in a few remaining souls at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. Keep us in your prayers and thoughts.
I worked in my Dad's Gulf station in the late 50's and early 60's , the station was in Dayton Ohio. I just started collecting Gulf stuff, any good deals out there, email me . GOHS good job!
Keep up the great work on this page. My father would have been proud of it. He was employed with Gulf for 35 years and worked his way up pumping gas to working in the Nashville, TN Terminal.
My father worked for Gulf from 1948, at West Meade Gulf, through Through the BP and finally working for an indie jobber in Franklin. Would like more info about your society. My brother will probably be e-mailing also. We do N-Scale model railroading and have several Gulf stations on our layouts. All fly the original orange disc, not the white stripe of the 60s on. Look forward to investigating your group and website. Thanks much. Mike Perry Nashville, TN
My dad began a Gulf service station here in October, 1961. At first it was only a small store converted from a one-car garage in our basement and a small separate garage with one grease pit. It remained under the Gulf flag until 1973, when Gulf sold their Finnish operations to two Finnish oil companies. I am still running this 40-year old station, now under a different brand, but with a strong awareness of the Gulf tradition. Our cafe still carries the Gulf name. We have had visitors from all over the country coming to see the only remaining Gulf station cafe in Finland. Once Gulf was the third largest oil company in our country, with about 200 gas stations. I have been running this station from 1983, but have practically grown up at the station.
I hope someone can help me! My Grandparents ran a Gulf station for many years while my father was growing up and he has been collecting some of the Gulf memorabilia for quite some time. We're now trying to locate an 8 pocket wall mounted map display rack. If you have one for sale or know someone who might please help me get in contact with them. Thank you!
i have just started collecting gulf oil and gas collectiblesabout 3 months ago and i am open to any oppurtunity that comes along o if you have any thing you want to sell email me
This is a Great Gulf Oil site. I became interested in Gulf Oil Collectibles after I aquired some Gulf Oil Date Nails. I visit Beaumont, Texas to go to the "Energy Museum" it is well worth the visit!!
Hello Gulf Oil Collectors. I have been collecting oil company advertisements for around 20 years but have only in the last 5-year made my most desirable brand Gulf Oil. I am in the process of assembling a 1950’s Gulf Oil Gas Station. It is about 50% complete. I have no schedule for completing the task. I just can across this internet site and thought it would be nice to say hello to all of you and inform you that I am doing my part to keep the history of the Gulf Oil Company alive.
My brother and I just moved back to Odessa and are helping to restore the old Gulf Building on Second Street here in Odessa. It opened 10/30/36. It is in bad repair now but will be a beauty when finished. Our father J. W. Stephenson, worked for Gulf Oil in Wickett, Texas for over thirty years.
HI" Gulf is great.
Gulf Oil has a lovely history in the Caddo-Pine Island Field, LA. Here they developed the underwater oil resouces of the field below Caddo Lake beginning in 1910. The development was the first isolated overwater drilling in the U.S. There is an oil museum in Oil City, LA, if anyone ever visits the northwest LA region north of Shreveport.
my dad had a gulf station in the 50's and 60's in norwood ohio garrett's gulf station
Great page! Glad to see all the profiles and pictures.

I enjoyed working for Gulf in Hooven,OH.Tonwanda,N.Y. Rochester,N.Y.Rensselear,N.Y.Phila. and Delmont Pa. worked for Gulf 22 years then Chevron for eight years.
This is a great site. It's also nice to see that Chevron has reintroduced the Gulf name through a line of oils and lubricants in seven Southern states. With Gulf service stations already on the East Coast, maybe the Gulf name will come back nationally.
PS - Please visit the new Gulf Lubricants website at www.gulflubes.com
You're doing a great job with the Gulf Historical magazine. We look forward to reading it. Would you please change my address to our 911 address which is: Robert E. Alexander 725 North Orange Giddings, TX 78942-1423 Thanks for doing such a good job. Robert Alexander
Great site. Keep up the good work. Attended a Gulf reunion in Middlesboro, Ky. on 10/3/01 hosted by Sam Mars and Charles Cason ( my dad ). It was really great to see some old friends and get to talk to everyone. There are plans for a follow up reunion next year and I hope to be there again.
Hello! While I'm no oil company employee or Gulf retiree, I still owe my childhood doodles--& my later career in "fine" art, commercial graphics, & cartooning--to the Orange Disc, as much as to God Himself. In 1964, before my first birthday, Gulf discs were replaced throughout the USA, let alone N.W. Alabama. I must have wanted one badly...because I both doodled gas stations & country stores, AND cut trademarks out of road maps & ads from magazines, by two years of age (1965-'66). One Disc that I especially wanted was on the way from rural Fayette County to Tuscaloosa (where my grandparents lived), to the side of Smalley's Store on US Hwy. 43. It was dwarfed by the current Disc...it was on a "lollipop" with wrought-iron curlicues...and it was under a shady oak on the Smalley family's front lawn. What could look more elegant to a 1 1/2-year-old? THAT set me to doodling Gulf (& Pure Oil) stations above all other brands! I became interested in trademark design & graphics by age eight (1972), and collected road maps, cloth badges, and pump signs seriously by age twelve (1976)--all just before my entry into Ala. School of Fine Arts--because of that 42- inch disc from 1925-1935. And now...we finally have one! It's my hope that we can do more than just "git t'gether an' reminisce 'bout ol' memories." Perhaps...we can persuade Cumberland Farms to merge with other C-store chains...maybe even with a crude oil/gas producer...and thereby return the Orange Disc to other parts of the USA! Why can't we? Thanks for letting me chime in...!
It's good to see the banner being carried high!
This is a beautiful historic document. My dad used to work for Gulf, and if he was still around, he'd love this site. Keep up the good work. Warmest regards, Dan Miller
My dad, Frank E. Curtis, Jr., was a Landman for Gulf for 47 years. I like the site and the information.
Great site.....Loved working for Gulf Oil Co.
COOL SITE... MY FAMILY HAS WORKED IN THE INDUSRTY FOR THE LAST 75 YEARS.. AND I WAS DOING SOME RESREACH AND I FOUND YOUR SITE... CHEERS!
Very interesting & informative site.I was exteremely impressed with the overall layout & copy which was very pleasing to the eye. Keep up the Good work.
This is a very interesting site, it made me remembering when I was a child , when "Gulf Italiana"'s service station animated with its colours "Via Borzoli" street here in Genoa.
Nice Site! Very Interesting.
Trabajo en la S.A.Española de Lubrificantes (GULF) desde el año 1991, soy vendedor de lubricantes en Madrid.
Tolle Seite .... weiter so Gruß Mystify Luxembourg
I have found the Gulf Oil site quite interesting and helpful. I have recently restored and old Gulf Oil oil can display rack. These normally sat in front of the station or in the island for displaying the Gulfpride Oil products for sale. I have also restored a old refuse can with the spring loaded top for placing trash, etc. Now in the process of restoring a '60 model Gulfcrest gasoline pump and also and earlier 50's version, using a Gilbarco pump. Not sure if Gulf ever used Gilbarco or not, but it should make a nice display.
I started to work for Gulf Oil in 1970,just out of the Air Force.I worked as a warehouseman in Jackson Ms.unloading many rail cars of oil and bug sprays and charcoal lighter. In 1974 I took a job as a Gulf transport driver. The fleet Rep.came and rode with me on one of my first deliveries, when we returned to the terminal he was overheard to say,"James will be a good driver if the transmission holds up".It did and I lasted through the merger and drove for B P until I retired in 1995.This is a great site,it feels like visiting with family.
i HAVE A BANNER THAT ADVERTISING THE FIRST RADIO BROADCAST OF THE kENTUCKY dERBY SPONSORED BY gULF,WHAT IS IT WORTH? MY GRANDFATHER WAS A GULF DEALER AND JOBBER,HAVE YOU GOT ANY WITH HIS NAME ON IT "CECIL STUART"
My father owned a Gulf gas station in Toledo,OH It was call Old Orchard Gulf, it was on Central Ave. right next door to Churchill's Supermarket in the Old Orchard area. I started working there helping my dad when I was probably in the fifth grade. Not sure when he opened the station but recently, I saw some family pictures where my three sisters and my mom were handing out things for the Grand Opening. Those sure were the "Good Ol' Days. I have some of my dad's Gulf items and have been to some flee markets and other places to collect more Gulf Stuff. I am not a collector, I just enjoy having these Gulf things because they bring back good memories. Once in awhile you can still find a Gulf Station in Kentuckey,W.Virginia and Virginia One thing I would really like to get is, a "pop gun" it was made out of paper and cardboard. The paper folded up inside of the cardboard gun and when you snapped it,it would pop! I haven't seen one since the station first opened up. This is all for now. Phil Ps. Drop me a line and say Hi.
I got my first station in 1959 and left Gulf when they pulled out of the state. Sold well over 250,000 to 300,000 gallons of gas per month. The last four or five years we concentrated on servicing boats. Made many, many, friends and still keep in touch with some of the kids that worked for me. Ran a drag car with Gulf all over it. Won a lot. Lost a lot, too. Still have some pictures of the station and some of the road projects we were involved with through the city and Gulf Oil. They had the finest products at that time and nothing could beat them. Would be glad to correspond with any one. My computer skills suck when it comes to sending pictures and stuff so you will have to be very patient with me. My station was in Warren, Michigan
My father, Vergil Foster worked for Gulf Oil on the tug Gulf Sprite and he wa stationed at the dock in Philadelphia. My uncle, Thomas Wilson Hutchinson, was a captain for Gulf Oil and my uncle Eugene Ripley, also was a captian for Gulf Oil. They all worked the tugs in Philadelphia. If any one knew them, would appreciate contact with you.
I am looking for information regarding BA Oil as I am building a model railroad which would include one of their refineries/stations etc.
I Worked at uncle ,Phil's Gulf service gas station in.N,H, when. was a kid. and rilly ,thought it was great working with uncle phil and phils,Gulf service . I MISS FULL SERVICE ,GULF
Enjoyed the site. Worked for Gulf 1979-83. Cincinnati and Philadelphia Refineries. Made lasting friends.
Born in Pittsburgh in 1963, and remember seeing the big GULF signs all over the city, and the research center. Moved to NY in 1970, and had a chance to see some race cars sponsored by GULF at Watkins Glen as a kid. Interested in anyting to do with Pittsburgh History or Gulf Racing!
"Hired on" with "The Gulf" at Port Arthur in 1979. The company was always refered to as "The Gulf." Marine Department, under Capt J.C. Davis and Paul Cleary. Super fine people in a great company. And what a fleet we had. The "animal" class T-2's GULFDEER, GULFLION, GULFSEAL and GULFTIGER, the GULFCREST, GULFOIL (she got more stray mail intended for Pittsburgh, Houston, etc), GULFPRIDE, GULFSOLAR, GULFSPARY, GULFSUPREME, and the royalty class GULFKING, GULFKNIGHT, GULFPRINCE and GULFQUEEN, and the small but mighty tug DELANCO (at the refinery from 1919 until 1983, that's service). With the retirement of the old T-2's and fleet downsizing, I was offered an opportunity to transfer to the lubricants export desk in Houston. The VP or Marine called around and found a slot that I could move into (I believe lubricants said OK about midnight of the deadline of the first downsizing ever in '81 (as I recall!). Went with BP, and often delt with the Charleston Blend Plant, again supper quailty folks. By far the best company I have worked for. Recently retired from
My dad owned a gulf station in memphis from 1957 till his death in 98. i grew up in the bussiness and still have it in operation, {garage only}
My father started out working for Mr. Dickey, a Gulf distributor in Cleburne, Tx, after WWII. He worked for several years driving a truck, then went on to open a pump repair shop. In 1951, he went to work for Gulf Oil as a pump mechanic. He retired from Gulf as terminal supervisor in 1971 from the Ft. Worth terminal. He bought out the Gulf distributor in Cleburne, Tx in 1971, the same business he worked for after the war. He and my mother have been running the business ever since. I have been working with them for about 15 years, and now my grown son and daughter are working with us. My youngest daughter, who is in kindergarten, also comes to "work" after school. Anyone who may remeber my Dad or Mom please e-mail us about the good old days at Gulf. I have heard so many stories and remember many myself. There is a loyalty we all have for Gulf that is hard to explain. It was, and still is, a great way of life.
Am an historian, work in the history of the petroleum industry; have a strong interest in the early days of J.M. Guffey Petroleum, a Gulf predecessor; anyone with information about any archival sources for the early days of Gulf, please advise; thanks much, JBM

I am researching our family history. Anyone having any info about my Uncle Richard P. Vinade would be deeply appreciated. He retired from Gulf around 1951 or 1952. He worked in the Industrial Sales Dept, Marine Lubricating Sales Dept. In 1947 he was presented an award by Thomas Reilly Div Supt of Marine Lubricating Sales. That's all the info I have. Thank You
I see many former Gulf employees checking out this website. I know many of you and would like to encourage you to join the GOHS. It`s a great way to keep in touch with friends and former employees from the "good old days" and find out about the history of the "old" Gulf. Although I am still employed by Gulf Oil Limited Partners, here in the Northeast, there is no connection between Gulf Oil LP and the Gulfoil Historical society. This site and the club itself is dedicated to the preservation of the history of Gulf. I am a Charter member of GOHS and highly recommend that each and every one of you join. I joined because I am a collector of Gulf memorabilia but you don`t have to be a collector to join, just someone who has a love for Gulf and it`s history. I`d like to hear from any of you out there who remember me or who would like to inquire about the whereabouts of someone we both may have known in the old days. Drop me a line at gulfstuff[blocked:blocked]@enter.net
I work at Gulfoil Nederland B.V. in den Helder i'm salesman for Gulf in the north of Holland. I like this site it is very cool, and nice pictures
I work for gulf transportation in san fransisco. We are gas carriers, our main company is olimpyan oil, a minny major on the west coast. The owner liked the name of the old gulf stations and called our transportation division gulf, so when i deliver to station's i'm asked all the time if we are of the old gulf stations..i say with regret no. I would have been proud to have deliverd for the company and i am very fasinated when i go by old unused stations that bear a rezembalance to stations of the past..it makes me feel like i wish i could step back in time!
Would like to thank Dwain , Paul and L C for the great display that they put together for our club at the Spindletop 100th anniversary.. The pictures look great and looked like yall had alot of fun.. Wish i could have been there with yall.... Great Job Guys
My Dad, Raymond Estep, and his brother Harold owned/operated staion for 50 yrs. (1936 -1986) at the intersection of U.S. Highway 11-211 in New Market, VA. My Uncle Harold owned the station several yrs before dad came to work with him after his term in the military. If anyone remembers this station, would love to hear from you.

I have a collection of Gulf memorabilia mainly orientated to the UK and Gulf's sponsorship of Racing Teams. I am looking for information about my grandfather, Marcus (Mark) Hanna. He was a paleontologist with Gulf from about 1921 to 1960. He and my grandmother, Myrl, had a hobby which was the subject of a Gulf company magazine article. They made butterflies out of rock sections, mounting them on plaques and stands or making them into jewelry, such as pins and bolo ties. The magazine article was most likely in the late 50's early 60's. If you have information about my grandfather, I'd love to hear from you.

I am building a Gulf Service Station now, have gas pumps that light at night and an island to gas up at,every thing inside is also GULF.
I joined Gulf at Milford Haven in 1977. It always had the reputation of being the best refinery on Milford Haven. When we were hijacked by Chevron no one ever said they worked for Chevron always Gulf!

My grandfather, father and uncle retired from Gulf. My dad retired at the time Chevron bought Gulf, he was employed for 30+ years. He has pictures of rigs he worked on throughout LA and TX. He also has some of the old Gulf books sent out. These books are from the 1950's. He will be so excited to hear about this
my grandfather(James W. Brice) own a gulf station until his death in 1967 in a small town of Augusta, Ohio
Started at Cedar Bayou 1973 with Gulf, great place to work. We changed our name to Chevron Cedar Bayou 1986. Wished I still worked for Gulf Oil.
This is sort of a sentimental site! My grandfather owned a Gulf Station in Birmingham, AL. At the time of his death in December of 1971, he owned one of the oldest dealerships in the southeast.
i am fixing up the front of my garage with a gulf motif. i have a gulf dealer sign i am touching up. the ppg code numbers i have do not compute with the local auto paint stores. all they have are fleet colors for gm and ford. i guess they used these to paint gulf vehicles. i need the gulf orange and blue paint code using ppg or whatever. thanks for the help in advance.
This is a great site. I am going to join real soon. I am a long time Gulf customer and collector. I was never an employee, but Gulf has a special feeling in heart. My Dad and I done alot of engine work in the early days in addition to our other full time jobs, and we rented a couple bays in an old Gulf station near our home and had a lot of fun. When I came back from the service in 1967, Gulf was my very first credit card that I had ever had. It continued until the merger of Chevron, which I still have and am a Time Honored Member as my years with Gulf continued. I use it every time we travel south which is two or three times a year. I collect everything that is gulf and still want more. Hope to hear from of you. Keep up the good work on the work you do on the society.
I would like to buy some Gulf racing stickers /dekals. Are there someone who knows where I can get those?
Hey! Anybody from Chiswick or Cheltenham out there? I joined Gulf in Chiswick in 1977 as the Occupational Health Nurse I am delighted to see this websight. Hope some others will visit soon. Kim
Great! I think I am the oldest employee still in the Gulf employment. Thanks to all you seniors and sons/daughters of seniors. I thank you all. Good News! Gulf is still running and surviving the fierce competition in Asia. We are still big - even though not as big as earlier. I used to work from 1984 to sell-off in 1985 with GULF OIL Corporation Licensee in India. Technical - Reporting to Harmarville -Mr. Robert Sissingh. Anybody Remember?
Employed by Gulf at Philadelphia Refinery June 1956.
Went to work for Gulf in March of 1957 as Dealer Developement/Manager of a 24 hour training station at Kentucky & Adams, in Evansville, IN. Worked different marketing assignments in MI, and New England area. i.e. the Providence District. Discharged in July of '83. Just found this site. Great, and I've seeen a couple of other names I regonize. Hi, you all!
This is a new email address. Could you please correct it from my old one? Thanks
Looking for as many pictures of gasoline pumps as I can find, with all four views of the pump. Front, rear, rightand left. This will greatly help me with the project that I'm working on. The original size of the pump will be necessary also.
I quite enjoyed the pix of the early service station and its historical marker dedication.
Nice to see the site, even if I don't know any of the names yet. My father began working for Gulf Refining in New Orleans in 1950 and had progressive assignments in the credit department in Jacksonville, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Houston. I began my career with Gulf Exploration and Production in New Orleans in Financial Accounting and moved through various assignments until the merger with Chevron. I'm still with Chevron, having worked in Land, Gas Control, Training Coordination, and Aircraft Operations. I'd be happy to correspond with any of you who knew my father or me over the years.
Browsing through my new computer and checked out the alumni web site. It was indeed a pleasure to see many familiar names. Sounds like a great pastime for me after 15 years of retirement. Looking back I have many pleasant memories of GULF.
The first Welshman to sign the guest book? I worked at the Milford Haven Refinery (West Wales, United Kingdom) in the refineries Fire Department from 1st January 1968 through the Chevron Merger and am still at the same site although it is now owned by Petroplus Tankstorage Ltd. I would like to hear from anybody who worked or visited the Milford Haven Refinery during its time under the Gulf banner. It's nice to see the Orange Disc is still shining brightly across the globe.
Started to work for Gulf Oil in 1975 at the Port Arthur Refinery, stayed through the "merger" with Chevron and the subsequent sale of the refinery to Clark Oil. Still with the refinery now called Premcor Refining, same group different name. Good to see a site where we can gather and remember how it used to be.
Worked for Gulf '64 thru '85 till takeover..Chevron then CFI till '91..Retired 1-1-2000 from a local environmental company..looking to move south soon..great idea for this way of keeping in touch
I hired on with the old Gulf in Feb. of 1974 in the testing Lab in P.A. Texas. Worked there for 7 years and then bid into the Instrument Dept. Moved to Orange in 1992 and retired from Chevron August of 1999. Gulf was the best to work for without a shadow of a doubt. Most of the guys knew me as GUNRUNNER at P.A. Miss those guys. Thanks for the site and i am thinking hard about joining.
Mt father started with Gulf pumping gas in Dallas TX int the late 30's and worked his way through the company in TX and in 1954 he took over the distributor ship in Grayson co. TX would love to here form some of the others from this ere in TX. He was with Gulf until his death in 1879 and then my brother took over and saw the turn to Chevron
My father worked for Gulf in the Texas Panhandle oil field from 1926 till 1959 when he retired. I also had two uncles who spent their working years with Gulf. When I was in college, the Gulf was kind enough to give summer jobs to sons of Gulf employees. Most of my boyhood days, we lived in Gulf company camps in the Panhandle. I will always have a warm stop in my heart for Gulf. I am in the processing of developing a web site devoted to live in oil company "camps" in generaland with our Gulf camp in Hutchinson county Texas in particular.
I am a 4th generation Gulf Oil Distributor still working out of my original bulk plant built in 1925. I have a nice collection of pre-1964 Gulf items and enjoy furthering the interest of "The Orange Disc". I congratulate all of those working for the GOHS and I appreciate your efforts. I look forward to the newsletterand I hope to be able to contribute to your article or efforts. Keep up the good work!
Cool site. Y'all have done a fantastic job on it.
I'M A MEMBER OF "GOHS". GREAT JOB ON THE NEWSLETTER & THE SITE. HATS OFF TO EVERYONE INVOLVED.
My father, Harry J. Huffman was an employee of Gulf Oil for over 30 years. Retired in 1960 at Waynesboro, MS. I saw an article in the paper about your placing the historical marker and was interested to learn more about your organization.
Employee 1964 - 1999, GR&DC 64-78, Gulf Chemicals, Baytown,TX 78-94 (Chevron), Chevron Refining, Pascagoula,MS 94-99.
I have a picture of my grandfather standing in front of the Gulf Oil service station he operated. Picture taken in about 1920. That station was put on logs and pulled with horses several hundred feet and then was used as my grandparents home. The round orange sign was visible thru many coats of paint through the years and the house still stands. When that station was moved a brick one replaced it which was very much like the old wooden one. The brick one was just torn down a year or so ago. I will share photos with a few people, only charge printing and postage.
My father was a Gulf dealer for at least 50 years. I dont have a lot of memrabelia but i do have a lot of memories.this site brings back a lot of those fond memories thank you very much.
New Member - I have been collecting GULF items for five years and enjoying it. I have an old country store (MR GULF's Country Store) where I display my GULF collection. Anyone is welcome to visit.
Current member and Gulf Oil Collector.
I worked for GOE&P International from 1976 to 1981 in the Houston headquarters at 712 Main Street. Great memories. I turned in my Gulf stock certificates on Wall Street on the last day for redemption -at the time of the Chevron takeover. I was sent to a room (I believe it was at Morgan Trust Co.) and the room was approximately 100' x 100'. Stacked and sorted on many table tops were most of the individual stock certificates that had been tendered by all of the shareholders. There was a mountain of stock certificates (many thousands) piled on the tables, all different vintages, designs and dates....I like to claim that i was one of the last employees to see the old corporation gathered together for the last time !!!
I am looking for any and all examples, photos or stories pertaining to the Wichita Truck. I know that Gulf Oil mostly used White Trucks but I remain hopeful that somebody may have seen something from the Wichita Falls Motor Company. The Wichita trucks are very similar to the White Truck in design and may be hiding in old oil field photos. Any information will be included in the now forming Wichita Truck Museum. Thank you for your time. Jeremy S.
The guestbook is a great idea! I am a member of the G.O.H.S. My grandfather, father and I collectively wore the Orange Disc on our shirts for 94 years. I would like to hear from anyone who has photos or other items related to Gulf's truck fleet. I would buy them or pay to have copies made. I am especially interested in Gulf trucks from the '30's,'40's and '50's.
I operate as VP Marketing Gulf Oil International, which owns the Gulf Trademark worldwide outside of the USA. I am currently in the process of producing a 100th year publication to mark this great co's history. I would very much appreciate any input of what should be included particularly great stories and anectdotes. There aren't too many companies out there with the rich tradition and heritage that we possess and as you would appreciate we only get one chance to do this right. Look forward to hearing from you all.
I grew up in Boston, Mass. in the 1960's and 1970's when Gulf stations were everywhere. I know Gulf is now a fraction of its original size, but it is still nice to know that the name is still alive along the East Coast. This is a great site.
I want to turn my garage into a Gulf Shrine. I am looking for signs & advertising. I am now restoring a Gulf Gas Pump.
My Grandfather, Charles Prinz, worked for Stoll Oil Company in Lexington, Kentucky and later for Gulf Oil in Louisville, KY. Unfortunately he died when my mother was only 6 years old. I was hoping to locate images, articles, anything that might mention my Granddad. I continue to surf in hopes of locating information, but no luck so far. I would appreciate any suggestions. Great site! john
I am interested in Gulf products, I have collected a few over the years. My father used to operate "Old Orchard Gulf" on Central Ave. Toledo, OH If you have a mailing list, I would like to get on it. Also maybe purchase some items.
It's nice to see people still care about what some of us grew up seeing on our streets and in our neighborhoods.
Great site! Going to join up to catch some U.S. news. Was a GULF DEALER in eastern Canada.
I started working for Gulf Canada in 1977 and am still employed with Gulf in their Calgary Office. I have just started collecting Gulf "collectables"
I am a current member of GOHS. Love Gulf things and enjoy being a part of this group. Worked in a Gulf Station for 14 years. Father owned one until they (Gulf) moved out!
I started with Gulf in 1970 at Hooven, Ohio (just 2 letters from Heaven) Terminal. My wife Barbra work at the Cincinnati Refinery located beside next door. The Terminal and the Refinery are long gone. Istill work for Chevron in Louisville, Ky. and Barb is a teacher. Glad to see this site.
Just saw your ad in "Check the Oil", nice website, started with Gulf in 1969 in the New England area, still collecting Gulf items, current office is decorated in signage and cans and globes.
Nice to see some former co-workers. Worked for Gulf in Ohio,WV, Md. and Fla.Took early in 1994 when Chevron traded MD to Exxon.
Nice site. I started working for Good Ole Gulf Port Arthur in 1977,still working for Chevron. My father worked for Gulf and retired in 1986, His brohter also worhed for Gulf at Port Arthur. Thanks for the site.
I am a model builder. Lately I have taken to modeling old style gas pumps from scratch. They have been fairly generic but I am now trying to get them more technicaly correct. Also I was delighted to find that I was the one thousandth visito to this sight. Do I get some kind of door prize for that? Just kidding! This is a marvelous sight, thanks for making it available.
Could I be the first international employee to sign up! I started at Gulf Oil Co. Eastern Hemisphere in its London office at 2, Portman Street back in 1978 after leaving school. As you can see by my email address I survived the merger and am still with that other oil co. Gulf hold many happy memories for me and for me were the best working years of my life... so far! Like others here I have a small collection of Gulf memoribillia, mostly UK focussed. My working life with Gulf was great fun... something that seems to have left the workplace nowadays! Any other UK Gulfers out there ?
Wish I had found this site sooner - thanks to Art Gray for letting me know about it. I spent 7 very good year at Gitco and GTT from 1978 to 1984. Many of the friendships I made there continue to this day. It was a great place to work!!!
I worked at GRDC from 1957 to the end in Refining services Divison as a pilotplant operator, foreman, and supervisor, I am very Proud of GOHS as R.Beck is my son. Anyone that knows who we are contact us on the net.
Started with Gulf 1954. Moved to various locations and stayed to the end, great to see this site as it brings back many happy memories.
I am a member of GOHS and wanted to relay two messages. One, I think the GOHS is a very professional and impressive website. Secondly,I wanted to report that my e-mail address has changed. It is currently gulfguy[blocked:blocked]@dellnet.com
great site - see some friends already in the guest book. keep up the good work. worked in new jersey/new york from '66 until the end. good luck to all.
Really great to see this site. I started with Gulf in New Jersey in 1977 and still receive a paycheck with the name Gulf on it. It's not the same, but I work for Gulf Oil Limited Partnership out of Chelsea, Ma. Like I said, it might not be the same, but at least the name is carried on. This is a great site and I thank all the wonderful people who put it together. My wife had our first child when I was an employee of Gulf (GORAM Gulf Oil Marketing), we bought our first house and moved to Long Island through Gulf. Sometimes I think my veins are flowing with blue and orange!
this is great. hope to contact old friends from gulf.i was in marketing in new jersey,1955 till 1985.worked out of bridgeton, collingswood, trenton, wilmington, linden, and hackensack.
very nice site
I need the address of branch company in Indonesia. Thank you for your kindness.
What a GREAT idea and will come back to this site. I recently started collecting Gulf items and love it. My Grandfather (Lucius C. Dixon) started with Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, Texas in 1912 and worked there until his death in 1946. My Father (Arthur C. Dixon) worked there for 40 years and retired in 1973. I started in Port Arthur in 1968 and then transfered to the new Allinace Refinery (south of New Orleans) in 1971 for the start-up. I am still at Alliance, but it is currently owned by BP. So, you can see Gulf Oil runs deep in my family and there is no doubt Gulf Oil was the BEST company to ever work for. If anyone knew my Dad or knows me, please get in touch.
Great to see a site on Gulf Oil History ! I am interested in research on the early years in and around Beaumont, Texas and Spindletop (10 Jan 1901).
Intereted In Collecting Gulf Handy Oilers
Work with Buckshot (listed further down) recongize several names already. Was I & C in Pa, also in N.E. and Va, 71 until "The end" Hard to believe that in 1970 Gulf was one of the top 10 corporations in the US!
ATTENTION Ex-Research Center Employees ..... If you worked at the Harmarville Research Center, particularly the refinery services department, please email me ASAP. There is a legal proceeding involving asbestos problems, and you may be able to assist and or benifit from your involvement. Also, if you have had any respitory problems, and you worked with asbestos at the lab, please email. I will provide you with the contact information.

Great idea! It is good to read about old friends and acquaintances.
Great idea !!! I am sure this guest book will fill up fast as there are still a number of people out there that loved this company. By the way, Glen Arm is a Baltimore Md. suburb.
Hello, I started in the steno pool in June 1967 - I 1st worked with Betty Lotter in the City Line Office. Then up to Retail Credit with Bob Siewell, George Flick, Harry Giesiecke, Bill Watson, Bob Best, Gerry Spause, George McCall, Bud Avery. I moved on the Data Processing and worked with May Carr. Then moved out to the Bryn Mawr office with Bob Olmstead, Bob Barger, Dave Woods, Ed Lynch, Jack Watt. That office closed and moved down to Baltimore with Gayle Simmons, then Bob Bradley and then Larry Walker. Chevron took us over and closed the Baltimore office and I finally HAD to leave after 25 years. Take care everyone - this is great.
I BEGAN WORKING FOR GULF OIL IN SEPTEMBER, 1953. I WORKED FOR 33+ YEARS AND RETIRED IN NOVEMBER, 1986. I WOULD LOVE TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH OLD GULF FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS
