Text Box: As you know by now, our application for the historic marker at the World’s First Drive-In Service Station has been approved. We have applied for the dedication ceremony to be held on Tue., July 10, 2000, at 11AM NOTE, that I said APPLIED FOR!!! Our plans, while not complete at this time, are as follows: Meet at a suburban location, travel by bus to the marker site for the dedication. At the conclusion of the ceremony, travel to downtown Pittsburgh for a tour of the Gulf Tower, (Gulf Building), then on to the old Harmarville Research Facility for a short tour there. Also, we will stop at an actual working 50’s style “Ice Box” station, still flying the GULF colors. The day will conclude with a picnic style dinner. Another possibility, is a mini-show that evening. There are several Pittsburgh area members with some exceptional pieces. Perhaps we could persuade them to drag a few out of the closet and display them for the group!! What we need, is an idea of how many members would be interested in participating in this. We don’t need “RSVP’s” at this point, just an idea. Why a Tuesday? Well, it’s like this. The Oil City show is the Friday before this, and several members are going to be in town for that. Buzz is considering trailering his restored 1919 Tanker back here from Kansas, but can not get here until Monday PM. That all equals Tuesday. If you think you would be interested, please contact an officer and let them know how many people would be coming. As with all GOHS functions, family members are most welcome. You are not obligated in any way, so if you think there is a chance you might come, let us know. At this point, I don’t see any cost to the members. Most of this we can get donated to us. If not, we will come up with something, to keep out of pocket costs at a minimum.
Don't Miss It!!ANNUAL MEETINGText Box: So far, there have been a good number of requests for information about the 2nd Annual Meeting. For those of you who have missed our previous messages, it will be held Sept. 8th, 2000, in Newport Tennessee. That weekend is Chip’s Dixie Gas, in nearby Sevierville TN. We will have an official “Gulf” building on the show grounds, for folks who are going to set up and sell. Accommodations are at the Holiday Inn in Newport. Contact information is as follows: Butch Koff, if you want to set up to sell in the Gulf Building. Contact Chip Flohe at Dixie Gas if you want to set up outside. Call 423-623-8622 for the Holiday Inn in Newport for reservations, and Gary Dawson has some contact info on tourism in the area, and there is plenty of that, with Pigeon Forge and Dollywood, Gatlinburg, and the Great Smokey Mountain Nat’l Forest just a short drive away. Everyone is encouraged to attend, including the family’s. Speaking of families, don’t be afraid to bring the Mrs., because there are a TON of great antique shops in the area. She can dump your butt at the show, and hit the antique trail!! Maybe, even bring you home a Gulf treasure!! Kids?? No problem. Pigeon Forge is the Go-Cart capital of the world, or so they claim! Mini golf courses, arcades, you can’t count these things, they’re everywhere! The only person that will be bored will be your dog!!!
